Curing live rock?

Post by Srkoe »

I bought a 12gallon nano cube we are going to use for saltwater. I have NO clue how to start a saltwater tank. I have read that I need to cure my live rock first. One site said to set up the tank, bare bottom and place the rock in by itself...as stuff dies off vacuum it out. Does this sound right? Will this cycle the tank, or should I drop a thawed raw shrimp in to get the cycle going? Any advice for start up would be great, I trust y'all here and don't really want to join another forum :). Thanks!

I'm going to cure the rock in the tank. Would you suggest going ahead and adding substrate at the same time? So what I gathered from the article the live rock should cycle my tank? Thanks PP for the great article!

Yes, the bacteria will grow in the substrate as the rock is curing.
