Waiting for my new puffer

Hello all
Another couple of days and then I get my new puffer fish.

It will if all goes well an arrowhead puff. My tank is now almost 3 weeks into it. I am so excited! My first big puffer.
Should it fail to get an arrowhead puff then it is anyway a big puff of fresh water ..


But let's hope it will be a nice arrowhead puff ..

Below a picture of my aquarium. Do not know how I should write in american sizes so here as 100cm x 40cm x 50cm. After filling and decoration still a 160 liters freshwater.

You say the tank is 3 weeks into it....How have you been cycling the tank? What are the Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate readings? 3 weeks is not really long enough for a full cycle.

That where the rules are different ... we start mostly at 3 weeks here .
Nitrate amonia and stuf like that is so less here .

for now my water is OK, but I wil have to test it this week before the fish is comming.

We have very clear en clean water in the netherlands

If u mean with cycle (sorry my english is bad) taking out water and put new in . Ofcourse I did . Every 4 days.

And the nitrit or amonia is good. Testing it with strips every 2 days so far.

Cycling a tank refers to the process by which you build up a proper bacterial colony in your tank and filter to process the waste products of the fish.

Doing water changes does not help your tank cycle.

The ammonia comes from fish waste....one set of bacteria turns it into Nitrite, the other turns it into Nitrates....which can be removed thru water changes.

If you have no fish in the tank, then your tank is not cycling...so any readings you take now are meaningless. If you put your new puffer into an un-cycled tank there is a good chance it will die from toxins in the water.

You need to do some more reading on the Nitrogen Cycle in aquariums. It will take at least 4-6 weeks to properly cycle the tank before it is safe to add your new puffer.

Do the reading PP suggested and get yourself some liquid test kits (test strips are no good)

Well I am using filter materials from a cycled tank..And I Add `water from the cycled tank to. I think that is what u mean?


Have read the artikles for as far as my english understands it ..Better speaker than write and read

In the Netherlands the mostly say 3 weeks .. And when the nitrittop has been there refresh the water for over 80% and test again.

The driptest I am gonna buy this week.
