Okay I finally figured out how to add pictures and went ahead and started an album.
Our water is a little cloudy right now so once it clears up I will be taking more pictures and adding them later.

Those little guys are adorable!! Don't look a thing like any GSP I have ever seen from Walmart -- these look really healthy!

How are they liking their new tank? Post a picture of the entire tank if you would... I am intrigued with the decorations in the background of your pictures.

new2uffers. Cute little guys. Watch the feeding, you want to feed till the bellies are just slightly rounded. I know it is hard with their constant begging. Here is a great link to read up on.

Yeah his name is Fatty, it doesn't matter how little food I put in there he goes around and gets pretty much everything the other one doesn't. The other ones name is Little One (obviously because he's smaller). So far they seem to love the tank. Since the water is a little cloudy and I don't have a light yet I'm not able to get a decent picture of the entire tank, but as soon as I can I will post more pictures.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of lighting to get? Nothing too expensive but decent quality.

Regular fluorescent is fine. Check Craigslist.

My tank is 36" long but it came with a lid that has a section that is 28" long that I think a light is supposed to sit in. I'm not sure exactly if it would be easier to buy a whole new hood and everything, or just find something that goes on the lid I have now...

At 48" you could buy a shop light at walmart, holds 2 T8's or 2 T12's, but I'm not too sure what you can find at the hardware stores at that length of 28" or 36". As long as you have a lid to keep fish in, and the light protected from the condensation, it should be good. If you're not super picky about your bulbs being actinic, or 10000k +, the plant/aquarium bulbs at the hardware stores have a decent color temperature to them, and are affordable.

+1 on that....I switched all of my tanks to glass lids and Coralife Dual T5 fixtures. They are relatively cheap and make great entry level lights for everything from planted tanks up to low light SW

I can't find anything on craigslist for just the lighting. Do you know of a decent brand name I could get at the store?
So far I've gotten the best local advice about GSP's from petsmart (believe it or not) but their selection of lighting has been minimal.
I really can't afford to spend anything but about $45 right now. (I'm sure my husband would want me to spend about $30)
We don't have a lot of income coming in and I'm lucky to be able to spend what I can on these guys at the moment. I wanna give them a good home and I think right now I am doing well. I know there are a few improvements on the decor I can make and I WILL make them as soon as I can, but for now is there any kind of cheap but decent lighting system you can recommend.
