Hot glue
I was planning on making a hide out of loose slate pieces, but want it to be securely stuck together so it doesnt collapse, is hot glue like from a hot glue gun safe to use in my aquarium, which will house dwarf puffers oto's and shrimp?

Im not sure if it would but I know they make aquarium safe silicon that will work great

There are waterproof hot melt glues, but local stores seem never to carry such. Count on mail order only.
Aquarium silicone is safe, but very poor for cementing rocks, gravel, etc. It rally is not at all safe support long-term.
If you want safe structures, use aquarium epoxy. It is safe and lasts forever. I use Two Little Fishies brand.
