Other brands as good as Python?

Post by Srkoe »

Since I will be getting my 110gallon this weekend it is time to invest in equipment for easier water changes. I have called all the local LFS and no one carries Pythons. One store has something similar made by Penn Plax and the other made by Aqueon. Does anyone have experience with either of these products? Is one better than the other? I really feel I need to get one by the time I get the tank home because the Fahaka will need to go in the tank as soon as possible...if I go through a mini-cycle I will need a fast way to do water changes and with a bucket and siphon there is not "fast" way about it. If I do need to order one online, who do you suggest using? Thanks!

I have one like this for bigger tanks - http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... d=11147172

During the summer I can hook it straight up to the water outside to fill up the tanks (I have good water). However I can't do that during the winter time becuase the water out there is too cold, and the ends of this python do not fit any sink I have, It is on my to do list of things to fix :)

Some of the other guys around her have fancier systems, I am sure they could lead you in another direction :)

Go to any plumbing or hardware store and you should be able to find an adaptor that will fit you taps and connect to to that python.

We have an Aqueon one and it's fine. Never used a Python but ours is a year and a half old and still going strong.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

I just bought that one except the 25' length. I read on a lot of other forums that people like it better than the Python and it's cheaper! If we need more length we'll just get some couplers and hose from the hardware store. Thanks!

I know, I just can't justify buying adapters when I want all new sinks!!

Lee's is what I have iirc, i dont use the big hard plastic end. I think it looses a lot of suction when that is attached.

And i found that the end that connects to faucet will connect with a hose so it can make it to the bathtub lol

I have only used Python, but I have been using it for 20++ years. I have replaced the siphon attachment more than once.

I just used you Aqueon on my 55&30 gallons...that was awesome. Moving the 55 to the next room, not so awesome. The peas were furious with me, but it was nothing a few snails couldn't fix! :)
