Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

You need to do lots & lots of WC on that tank, until it's cycled. As Dad says, don't even worry about meds or salt right now. Get yourself some liquid test kits for: ammonia, nitrite, nitrate & start testing.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

In the last few days I put some ceramic rings from the main tank in the filter of the puffer tank, also i changed almost all the water of the tank with half of water of the main tank and half Ro water. All the test are good. The puffer eats, not everything i give though. He still looks kinda skinny but he's pretty active.
Re: What puffer is this?!? Id it plzz!
Can you confirm that the tank is only 11 litres and therefore approximately 2.5-3gal?

It's not going to survive in there. What are your plans for upgrading? This tank cannot support that fish at all.

He will not get healthy in there. This is not a "rescue" if you won't house him properly from the beginning & he dies anyway. This fish should be easy to save, if treated right.

Re: What puffer is this?!? Id it plzz!
I didn't mention that it is still barely a inch long. If i put it in the main planted tank he wont be able to feed cause he still need to put food right in front of him and since the tank is veeeeery planted i wont be able to reach him and there is a lot competition for food with the other fish. I don't want to get it back to that store cause its a very bad one, he would die 4 sure in there since they keep trying to feed puffers with flakes food.
Re: What puffer is this?!? Id it plzz!
I understand what you're saying, however the fish isn't suitable for a planted tank anyways. Is there no way you can get a larger tank for it immediately? Even at less than an inch there's no way it can survive in the tank it's in now. Puffers are sensitive and messy fish.

This puffer doesn't belong in your "main" tank, with other fish. He also doesn't belong in a planted tank, as the amount of salt he'll need will kill any plant. He needs to be brought up to SW, as soon as his tank is cycled. I have a strong feeling he also needs to be treated for IPs, ASAP.

I know, i have an empty 50g tank in the garage, but the problem is i can't take it up home cause i dont have space so i should leave it down there.. i could set it up as a brakish tank. I wonder why i got curious with this puffer!! It was with dwarf ones and at first look i thought it was a very skinny Colomesus asellus or maybe a small suvatti or something. I could never image it would have been a SW puffer!! I suspect he might have IP, i have Metronidazole i could treat it with it..?! :S

Puffers before furniture!!! You don't need couches or beds, get rid of them..then you will have the space you need!!italcool wrote:I know, i have an empty 50g tank in the garage, but the problem is i can't take it up home cause i dont have space so i should leave it down there.. i could set it up as a brakish tank. Yes, soak it's food in Metro & feed only medicated foods for 3 days.
