I only had a dozen tanks when we married, but she definitely knew in advance what she was getting into.

I have never complained about her musical instruments, and she does not complain about my tanks - unless the front glasses get dirty.

When my wife and I first met we were both in to reptiles, not your average run of the mill cornsnakes either. I had Blackhead Pythons, White Lip Pythons, Makklots Pythons (part of a breeding project), a pair of Black Russian Rat snakes, 4 Iranian Sand Boas, 2 Reticulated Pythons, one Blood Python, and pair of Eyelash Viper. She came equipped with her own small herd of Bearded Dragons, one Savannah Monitor Lizard, a Blue Tongue skink (south Australian), and a gaggle of geckos. She knew she was settling down with a man of odd tastes and hobbies and I knew she would compliment the adventure I was on. Had kids and decided to get rid of the herps and expand the fish stock. We really don't look back but occasionally we see something in the stores that catch our eye, there was this cute little Savannah Monitor in the LFS last week that I really thought about getting....

My wife wants nothing to do with my hobbies (fish & cars) and I have no interest in hers (knitting, etc.). She spends at least what what I do on her hobbies, if not more, so the money issue isn't there. She has been spending more time looking into the marine tank I just started though.

Hey John, try doing some knitting with her. That might help you stay out of the dog house when you go buy more fish, tanks, and ect .

...Surprisingly, when I was researching knitting videos for a project I was working on quite a few if not most of the videos were done by men... and I mean they seemed like quite manly men, which surprised me quite a lot. ...???

I had Blackhead Pythons, White Lip Pythons, Makklots Pythons (part of a breeding project), a pair of Black Russian Rat snakes, 4 Iranian Sand Boas, 2 Reticulated Pythons, one Blood Python, and pair of Eyelash Viper. She came equipped with her own small herd of Bearded Dragons, one Savannah Monitor Lizard, a Blue Tongue skink (south Australian), and a gaggle of geckos.

That sounds like my best friend's absolutely worst nightmare. She is extremely afraid of snakes. I see snakes in the woods only about once a year, and you can be sure it happens when she is with me - which also happens about once a year.

I'm sorry, but I keep seeing this disturbing picture in my mind, of all those snakes ganging up, and going into the children's nursery- Fish are definitely safer. I must admit I find snakes quite cool though. But they are not allowed to keep in Norway. It's an absolute ban on keeping reptiles and amphibians as pets here. But I am enough of an animal lover to keep moving these little snakelike animals out of the road if it's sunbathing there. I find them beautiful, and I don't want them to get run over by a car. Unfortunately they don't agree with me on the opinion that it's an unsafe place to take a nap. I've seen them go back on the road again after I've moved it, so then I have to move them further away. That usually works. They are cute little things! Sorry, I got a bit carried away, talking about snakes...

Those are the kind of snakes they have in Hawaii! They are about as close to worms as you can get though, they just look like snakes without eyes. I found a very small one in Hawaii once on the road at night. Weird that, because it was nearly black and I found it at night. Lucky!!!

Oh wow lucky dog you. That is a pretty good snake collection you once had. I bet the blackhead pythons was awesome and the rest sound very awesome too. I have had Ball pythons, afew corn snakes, and now I own a common boa constrictor that must be the runt because he has not grown a good size in the 1st year. Bought it when it was only 12 ". Yes the whole liter was around that size but I think mine was the smallest. Never power fed it because I always thought that was unhealthy but at only 3' in over a year old, not sure that is average from his size at birth. Love this guy though and named him Kira. Also kept many lizard and turtle species over the years too. True chameleons and monitor lizards has always been my favs of my lizards. Had my share of nile, and savannah monitors (man these are extremely aggresive well mine where anyways even as babies), 3 different species of true chameleons, many different species of geckos, and so on. My wife and I was totally not on the same page when it came to hobbys. But she soon started loving the reptiles more then the fish though..lol. You would had thought it would had been the other way around. Odd thing about my reptiles, my snakes where more down to earth and the tamest and friendlist over my lizards...lol. My Nile, Savannah monitors, black and white tegu, and one adult male veiled chameleon male was nightmares though. Hissing, biting, slaping their tails, and crapping all over you and the floor. They where extreme handfulls. But my pythons, boa, and corns was so docile. my snakes and those few lizards where night and day.

I love snakes but Ive never owned one. I once caught a garter snake in the woods and fell totally in love with it. So gentle, bright green, my mom had a fit. Then I knew a girl in high school who had two pet pythons and she would let me hold them and theyd basically wrap around me. You have to experience that to know how to describe it. You can feel every one of their muscles, and you know how strong they are. Its so cool. I cant get a snake right now because of the cockatiel, maybe get a small caged snake someday. But when I was in Hawaii I use to catch the geckos. Soft skinned transparent white... although they could change color to a deep brown. I even used to find their eggs. Never saw one hatch though. But they were my favorite, would love to get one someday. I love critters, particularly reptiles. Im big on turtles too. And when I was little I would catch and keep hermit crabs... love those guys... sorry, off-topic heh.

Fugu, if you ever want or time to get your 1st snake. I would try a cornsnake. They come in a rainbow of colors, only gets about 3' as an adult, and very docile. Best beginners snake, imo.

They are actually lizards, but without legs. But they look very much like snakes, and my best friend is scared of them too (anything that can look like a snake...). You can see the lizard in it if you look at the head. It has a really lizardlike head. If they are threatened, they can lose their tail, like the only other lizard we have here in Norway. In Norwegian they are called stålorm, which means steel snake, and that's because of their greyish color. But you can find other colors as well. Once I found one that was copper colored. That was a beauty!

Always thought those legless lizards are cool. Thats one of the other common names of those lizards.
