Crayfish?

Post by Srkoe »

I willbe going to the lfs this weekend and want to pick up a crayfish to offer to my f8's. They are one is about 2.5 inches the other about 3 inches. I also have 2 bbg's and a knight Goby in the same tank. This may sound stupid but will the crayfish pinch my puffers or other fish??? I would hate to have a wounded or dead fish and the bbg's are so tiny.

They can if the puffer comes at the from the front, some people pull the claws off so that cant happen. And if it does the fish will heal and im sure the crayfish will be dead

It is much better to eat the crawfish yourself, then feeding them to your fish.

Very true especially since I have been losing my allergies to shellfish. Wasn't sure it was possible till it happened to me. :)

Crayfish don't6 have their claws taken off in the wild.... Just saying.

My Fahaka annihilates any size of crayfish, and he's still only about 10 months old and a fifth his full size.

I know they are not taken off in the wild...hehe...I'm more nervous that if it sits in the tank for too long it will mess with my bbg's. I'm just paranoid I suppose.

I would not band the claws, your puffer may suck the band down too.

Yes we go through this debate all the time, in the wild they have their claws and the puffers take the chance of getting hurt. In my tank, I dont wanna chance hurting my puffer. I could careless about the cray he is about to be eaten anyways.

I euthenize the crays before feeding...not worth risking your puffers health

How do you euthanize them? I would be afraid of doing anything to them for fear of affecting my (eventual) puffer

Could you freeze them?
