Try the Korilia pumps. Cutting out flow is a really bad idea.

I think she is using Koralia pumps, the newer EVO ones (was asking about them in a different thread)

Yes, it is a Koralia Evo 4000 l/hr. I still have the other one going & also an internal filter still up & running & the flow back from the sump gives pretty good circulation, so I think I should be ok until I get the replacement sent through.
Glad I found out what it was - horrible thoughts of slowly cooking puffs!

Again, 78-80C is not going to cook your fish! Do you have a fan on there? I really would not remove any flow from your tank. How is the nitrate?

But I would rather not have the temperature kept there by a piece of faulty equipment that is randomly kicking out excess heat. I would rather it were controlled by by the heaters. Don't forget, I was aiming originally for 24C/75F (now I know I can safely go higher, I will) The parameters are the same as in my original post - ammonia/nit/phos all zero & nitrate <5. ( I test religiously at the moment - to the point of obsession! -because of the change-over)
I really believe that the extra current from the internal filter will be plenty to tide me over until the replacement arrives. Then, when it does, & the tank is stable I will remove the filter altogether.

I agree. It might be heating the tank to 26 now but could possibly just get hotter and hotter as it wears. It's up to you to decide the temp you want, not the equipment.

The point was never that 26 was not a good temp....the point was that they didn't know where the heat was coming from. 26 is fine if you are controlling it yourself....you never want an uncontrolled heat source in your tank, even if the temp is ok.
You did the right thing in hunting it down...what was causing the heat BTW?

Well, the only thing that had an effect on the temperature when I switched it off, was one of the Koralia Powerheads - I have been in touch with the seller, who is happy to send a replacement & return the faulty one to hydor for examination - so hopefully they will be able to let me know exactly what the problem was.
