Uv Purifiers

I was wondering if the UV water purifiers work like a tap water purifier and can possible reduce the ph level in my aquarium... Not to sure if this is what these actually do. If i could get a little information that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

What's the pH of your tap water? Does it fluctuate a lot?

I tested my tap water and its about 8.0 possibly a little more.

UV doesn't change pH. What fish are you keeping?

I'm tryin to get that Congo puffer but I'm setting up my aquarium and making sure everything is going smoothly

UV (well maintained and clean) kills some water column bacteria and infectious-stage free-swimming parasites. In algae or bacterial blooms the pH of the water might shift down a bit from the increased quantity of dead bacterial or algal cells, but that is not a direct result of the UV. That should be corrected by large scale partials to avoid overload of the filtration system. UV should not affect the pH of the water directly. But nether should a tap water purifier unless it includes cation and or anion exchange resins - which would ordinarily be a follow-up to RO water water processing. RODI processing will change the pH from the reduction of carbonates/bicarbonates.
