90g FOWLR tank

Post by briguy44 »

I am going for it! I have been wanting to take my two gsp marine for a little while now so am finally doing it and not looking back. I just bought a new 90 gallon tank with a built in overflow system to start with and now is were I am going to need a lot of help from you all. I am studied out what I need to do and equipment needed for some time now. However I am sure I will need some help from you all :D My first step is to buy the equipment that I need. I have most of the pluming to set up except I don't have a return pump yet. For a 90 gallon how big of a pump should I get? How many times will I need to turn the water in the tank through the sump per hour? I plan on updating with pictures as I get things set up, so pictures will follow!

RR tanks are the best! Do you have a sump with that? I'm pretty sure there aren't any big-time reef club in Idaho but you could look in the Used Equipment forum here for a good skimmer: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=2

Let me know if you can see that forum. You might need a minimum of posts to do that.

It do need a minimum number of posts to get into that page, it wouldn't let me in. I don't have an actual sump, I was planning on just using a 20 or 30 gallon tank off of craigslist for a sump. Will that work or is it not such a good idea? As for a skimmer I was planning on getting the coralife super skimmer either the 125 or 220. Not sure if I should go with the bigger one or not. I know that they can be a pain to adjust right but I haven't heard one person complain about one after they figures out the adjustments..........

You'd be better off with an Octopus or ASM G2 skimmer for in sump. Here's a wonderful site on building sumps: http://www.melevesreef.com.

Oh WOW! I never thought there would be a reef club anywhere around here. I am defiantly going to check things out there. The only problem is they meet about 4 hours away from me. I do pass through there several times a year though. Thanks so much PP!

Doesn't mean there aren't folks nearer than that to you that are members, looking to sell a skimmer, rock or sand.

spent the evening over there. Turns out there are some from my neck of the woods. No skimmers for sell but probably going to get some live rock from a guy on there. Thanks again PP.

You could put out a request for one. Also Craigslist & Ebay.

Will the octopus 150 skimmer be sufficient? The next size up, a 200, is $100 dollars more.

Hey! What's the latest, briguy44?

If you haven't yet bought a skimmer, check out my post from this morning (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=26357) ... I posted a link to an online aquarium supplier that's offering free shipping on skimmers.
