i have a big rock i think its mostly limestone that i would like to put in my fig 8 puffs tank to make a cave but wanted to check to see if it will adversely affect them or not. i will wait for a response before i put it in.
I cordially dislike allegory in all its manifestations, and always have done since I grew old and wary enough to detect its presence.

apparently it will change the water balance. It will make it harder. If you put a drop of vinegar on it and it fizzes it is limestone.
if you follow me, you avoid stepping in the crap that I just did...

What is the tank volume and footprint?

Harder is better for F-8s. You do have them in light brackish water already, I hope. What is the specific gravity of the water?

I've considered adding limestone to my tank to increase KH for my F8 and BBGs. Where in OH do you live? I live in Montgomery County and our KH is like 3 degrees.

i live in montgomery county as well in clayton to be exact. yes i have them in light brackish water i keep it at about 1.003 to 1.005. i have black sand already so harder is good is what i wanted to hear.

Landon, check out Craigslist for a 55g. I see them all the time and I bought one complete with stand, canopy, light, canister, etc for $100. Your f8s would be so happy in a 55g.

Also, I might be willing to sell my 46g in about two months if your interested. Stand, canopy, light, background, crushed coral/aragonite/PFS substrate. It's less than a year old and I'd sell it for $175. I wanted to keep it around just in case but if you can't find something better I'd sell it. Or if you want to sell one of your F8s...I can offer it a great home.

@RTR the rock is a little bigger than a soft ball

That will not displace enough water to be a problem, so should be OK. But the tank is still too small.
