Need new Anti Virus.

Post by purplecandle »

My McAfee is going to run out, I hat McAfee so I need to know of another option. I know that Me and Dad had this conversion, but I cannot find it now..something about switching to something starting with a A.

Anyone have any recommendations? I need something that does not use up all my VM and if possible, something cheap.

AVG, it's free and works very well. It's all I have and I've never had an issue over all of the years. I know a few computer people and it's what they use too, even though they have full free access to things like McAfee and Norton.

AVG is good.... and free. They also have a "for sale" version and also some add ons you can buy. It is not necessary to purchase any of them though. I mean it is not like if you use the free virus program you have to pay for some kind of add-on for internet like some companies have.

Many years using AVG with absolutely no issues!

Avast is the one Dad uses.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
A squared.
Just don't forget to do scans in safe mode sometimes, it can catch stuff missed otherwise.

The only problem with the free antivirus programs is that ANYONE can download them... including the people that code computer virii. It is not difficult to code a virus that attacks an antivirus program directly, then download more virii through the internet that will have an open door to your computer's throat.

I personally use and recommend Kaspersky antivirus. It ain't free, but if you're like me and have IMPORTANT information on your computer, the added protection is well worth the cost of admission. Since I'm also an IT repair technician, you could also call that my professional opinion.

I use Avast, Superantispyware, Spybot search and Destroy, Malware Bytes Anti Malware, Emco Malware Destroyer, Eusing Registry Cleaner, and Startup Manager. I work I switch Avast to Norton Internet Suite. They all find stuff the others missed.

Another happy Kaspersky user here.

There are some techies in the family. If I did not comply with their urgings to use that, they would not give me tech support. As I am a computer idiot, I dare not go against them. They command and I obey.

I am looking into the kaspersky. Looks like they have a free trial offer.

I just want something that makes it safe for me to buy things online, keeps the viruses out and in case one of my kids clicks something they shouldn't, my computer is not distoyed. I also want it to not suck as much as McAfee.

Does anyone know the answer to this question...Should I just get an anti virus program or should I go up and buy something with more bells and whistles?

Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 - which is what I run - blocks everything from computer viruses, phishing URL's, adware, dialers and network attacks (hackers.)

For what you're looking for I'd say it's your best bet.

I use Symantec, which is good, but expensive. For a good program that is free, go for Avast. It works very well.

Avast is one of the best, IMHO the best, free ones. Kaspersky is the best one on the market right now for pay anti-virus.
