Python Gravel Cleaning System
I just picked up a 25' Python Gravel cleaner but I have one question. I might sound ignorant but with my tank being brackish arent i going to have to mix the salt in a bucket before filling the tank?? So if i do then kind of eliminates the "no bucket" thing. Just wanted to see what all of you guys/girls are doing so I can get this thing more efficient. I guess i could get a pump but not really wanting to spend the cash if there is an easier way. Thanks for any advice

I use a pond pump to move my water from the holding/mixing buckets to the tank. I just found some hose that would fit the pump outlet. I have also heard of a person that uses a submersable power head and a hose to transfer water (not that I am sure how that works though)
During the cold and frozen months here it is not hard to find cheap deals on pond pumps and equipment. My pump is rated at 225 gallons an hour at a 4' height.... but I don't think it pumps quite that fast. I only paid a bit over $20 including the hose.
Oh and yes... you do need to premix the water. Best to let it stand over night as well before adding to the puffer tank.

It depends on what SG you have your puffer at right now.....I just mix all of the salt in a small bucket and then dump it into the tank while it is filling with the water from the python like most of the people from this thread advised.

IMHO & IME, BW and SW should always be premixed with aging and circulation and tempering. I am a bit compulsive about water, and would never do mix and pour. I use a setup similar to that used and pictured by jmiller above (same brad of vessel - that is a food-safe container)r, with a Hobby pump for circulation and pumping and a heater for tempering to tank temperature. I have been using the same vessels (I have multiple for the tank room) for over 20 years without any water issues. It is cheap on a lifetime basis and makes your life so much simpler and easier. It also protects the fish.
