hi i have just got my f8 fuffers, just curious as i my lfs had around 50 in a tank fit for 1, most have fins missing or chewed to bits, i got the ones that look to have most of there fins, will there fins grow back or while the fish grows larger will they in tirn grow larger?
i got them and they also have been sold as frshwater puffers, i no they are brackish...so i have acclimatised them in to brackish...
just got f8 puffers...brackish???

Didn't you just set up this tank? How did you cycle it? Use Melafix to heal fins.

melafix?, ill look for it. are you in the uk or us? i used bacteria addative in my filter, cant recall the name, was in a air tight pot, small black bvalls, i add to my filter in a filtersock, the next day it had dissolved in to the filter, is advertised as imidiate stocking avalible with this, i waited 3 days and water showing as fine, i used ro water from fish shop and pre mixed marine water to create brakish.Pufferpunk wrote:Didn't you just set up this tank? Your water was showing as "fine" after 3 days, because there was no bioload in there to say otherwise. Any good live bacterial additive would insist you add an ammonia source (fish) immediately after using the product, or the bacteria will die off from starvation.
I am in the US but Melafix is available everywhere. I'm glad your new puffers are doing well. Keep a very close eye on their parameters.
