F8's in a 29G

I am planning to empty out my 29G and convert it to brackish in order to keep Figure 8 puffers. However, I am having a hard time finding any consistency with how many I can keep in a 29G. Would 3 be OK to keep in there long term? as long as the tank is decorated enough to allow them territory, hiding places, etc.

The tank maintenance schedule is currently about a 50%+ water change weekly, and has a canister filter rated for a 65G tank on it.

Just two would be better in a 29. To me two puffers stand a higher chance of conflict than 3 would, but there just is not enough space for three in a 29.

Is there any chance of using a 40-long instead? that would offer a lot more space for three fish. That 4-foot footprint makes a huge difference over the 30-inch 29 gallon tank.

Thanks, I think I will either go with 2, or maybe even get a single and some bumble bee gobies.

No chance of using a 40 long, unless someone wanted to trade a 40 long for my 29G!

I kept my singleton for a long time in a 29g and I thought it was the appropriate size. Seemed to give him enough to explore and room exorcise. He did fine with his BBG tankamates and he still does fine with them in a larger tank.

I keep my two in a 60g, they used to be in a 33g. After having them in the 60g for a couple years now I wouldn't have them in anything smaller. They make use of every square inch in the tank.
