sick puffer....help

Read this before posting!!
Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

are they contagious, fatal, do i need to treat or will he fight it off
Re: sick puffer....help
Please stop posting again so soon after your original post unless you have something new to add. You have to understand that we all have lives away from our keyboards and bumping your post won't get you an answer any time sooner. I know how worried you are though
From what you describe it could be either a bacterial or fungal infection. Do you have marine Melafix and Pimafix around? If so I would add it while waiting to hear from others. Unfortunately I don't know what medicine you should use, this is a weak area of mine
Hang in there, do what you can to reduce stress, and work on ways that you can improve it's diet in the future.

It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Re: sick puffer....help
bumping? unsure what u mean? i was told to move this to this section, and only reposted as i was responding to the previous answer, as i am to yours, no only med i have is reef safe exodin, that i used for white spot for my tang in my reef tank. should i add this?
Re: sick puffer....help
You did the right thing by making a new post in the hospital section
That was a good thing to do
I mean that after you make the original post please don't post again asking if people have any ideas. Especially only 20 minutes later, we'll respond as soon as we see it
I don't know what that medication is or does. I did a quick search and it looked like it was more for parasites. Do you know what drug(s) is in it?
Here is the article about feeding. I copied the link for another thread and thought I would add it here too as once your puffer is eating it is important to feed them well so they stay that way

Re: sick puffer....help
It was sold as reefsafe for whitespot, it worked for that but doesn't say on bottle or what it contains, I will try and feed him
Now again, he was decorating brineshrimp before so I will try that now, as he shows no interest in cockles,

Re: sick puffer....help
white spot = ich and that is a parasite.. that is what the bottle you have is for. Does it look like he is covered in"salt" little white speck? or is it cottony and fluffy like you mentioned earlier?
Another thing, which is a symptom is an excessive slime coat.

Yes a cottony White coat, yeah he has some
Sand stuck on him from Sitting around, and after close inspection
No White dots on his body but a cupola in his fins, is this ich? Does exodus
Treat this? Is it contagious or fatal?

Re: sick puffer....help
exodus <== who makes that med? I can't find it.
When the LFS says your parameters are "fine" ask them the hard numbers. The actual readings in numbers.
Ich is contagious, and fatal, but it doesn't sound like that.
In the UK you'd be looking at: Interpet #8 Anti Fungus & Finrot, that is if it is a fungus.
