Silly Puffer...Nori is for Angles!

Any negative aspects to my S&S puffer eating nori? I put a sheet in for my Flame Angel and the puffer DESTROYED it.

Most puffers examined after beeing caught in nature had consumed either algae or plants. If they are eaten intentionally or as a by-catch when snapping some gastropods can be discussed. However, plant and algae matter is a natural part of most puffers' diets and most do intentionally eat some.

Huge +1 to Covus comments.

For FW puffers, fresh green intake may be incidental to food capture - hobbyists can easily learn to differentiate between FW puffer bites and loach bites on live plants. But the SW puffers chow down on the plant material for its own sake IME. So nori is for both fish, and the Angels will have to compete - clip in a couple of places at opposite ends on the tank?

i had a GSP that loved the sheets of algae i used to put in for my lemarks angelfish and lawnmower blenny, the bite holes they leave are cool looking. my current GSP isnt as big a fan but will bite it once or twice chew and swallow but that will be it

You can also try other dried alga. Two Little Fishes packages some that I used to use for several fish. They do tend to have favorites, but a variety is good for them if they will take it.

This is interesting. My puffer watched my new yellow tang eat Nori for over two weeks, literally staring at him I think curious what the tang was up to.

One day when I clipped the Nori on the side of the tank for the tang, the puffer came right up, shooed away the tang and took a bite out of it.

Fascinating learning behaviour haha

Hi SkullV still no luck selling the little guy? Your going to get to attached to him/her and have to break down and get that larger tank. Good luck either way.
