Puffer not active

Post by paulbaker »

Hi all,

I've had my mbu puffer for 2 weeks now, he is fine during the day with no light on but as soon as i put the light on in the evening he just sits in the same corner and doesnt move. He is eating fine (i feed him in the morning), water has been checked and all fine, i do water changes twice a week. Just wanted to know if this was normal behaviour. He is still small (about 2-3 inchs).

many thanks

Paul

How is the tank decorated? Many fish won't come out in the open, if there isn't enough rocks & plants to retreat to. How big is his tank? Can you post the parameters?

+! to PP's post.

If the area is bright during the normal day and them darkens before you turn the lights on, the fish may be setting its day-night cycle by the sun and sleeping before the artificial lights go on. That sort of lighting messes up my crepuscular catfish in the same way.

many fish, especially wild caught are active during the dawn and dusk hours. Full daylight (lights on) make them nervous and shy.

Although I don't have an MBU, I have a feeling that once he / she equates "lights on" = food it will perk up a bit.

My puffer is likewise very nocturnal I think.

He sleeps during the day and then at 10pm sharp will sit staring outside his cave for me to walk by and bolts to the glass demanding food (at least thats when he's come to expect to be fed).

Its very hard to resist feeding a puffer begging for food haha.
