baby starry puffer

I should never visit petstores, because I can't leave without wanting to buy something. I found a very cute baby starry puffer that is about the size of a marble, if not smaller. I am debating buying this puffer and setting up a small tank for it. The store employee said it could be housed in a relatively small tank for now, but if I am going to buy a tank and supplies, I want something that will hold him for longer than a couple months. (Plus I never trust the store employee's at most of these places and have to do my own research) I would like something that would hold him for about 1 1/2 - 2 years. Does any body have any idea how fast these guys grow? Suggestions on tank size? I currently have an Australian stripe puffer, any chance they could be housed together once the baby puffer grows up if the tank was large enough?

Is it the Arothron stellatus your are referring to? If so these guys get huge. Puffer Pedia suggest the ocean as tank size so that should give you an idea that you need a huge huge tank. As far as homing puffers together it is not suggested, hit and miss and you must have alternate plans in place ahead of time in case it doesn't work out.

It's a shame they sell them at all--especially at that size--it's sooooo misleading. It's the GIANT among all puffers!

The sign in the store only said "Starry puffer". He appears to be brown with orange dots all over his body. I am going to go back tomorrow and try to get a picture of him.

No, and unfortunately couldn't get a picture of him, as he wouldn't come close enough to the front of the glass for me to take a pic. I will keep trying.

That fellow was definitely pea-sized. I couldn't believe I even saw him!
