Newb looking for info
Re: Newb looking for info
RTR, I noticed a library item (basic snail breeding by Ian Jefferies) that mentions a snail breeding article written by you, but the link is dead and I can't find the article elsewhere. Any idea where it went?

That will depend on the number of puffers you will have and what percentage of their diet you want to raise yourself. I always raised almost all of F-8s food myself.
I use a number of veggie filters (planted FW tanks) on my specimen and/or breeding FW tanks. Those tanks also serve as as snail or shrimp breeder tanks. Right now the largest is 40 gallons, but when I had mostly puffers - including several very large ones, I used some really big veggie filters - 180s and 120s - on the Fahaka and mbu tanks. Then I generated enough live food for dozens of F-8s and as treats for multiple other puffers..
For a handful of F-8s only, I'd likely use 15s for snails, probably a 20 for a heavily planted Red Cherry shrimp breeder, but a 15 would do for them as well - the 20 is just easier to set up as a display tank. Two 15s will fit easily under a 75 on most stands.
