F8's in GA

Hey all! I have been on this forum for a bit but have not chatted in the forums much. I had a few questions lately and have found you all so friendly and helpful! Thanks!

So a bit about my pets, I have:
55gal brackish: 4 f8's 4 Bumblebee gobies some live plants
10 gal (my son's really): beta, 5 glowlite tetras all live plants
small snail tank, haha

1 dog
2-20 gal land hermit crab tanks w/12 crabs total

So we are overlaoded with tanks and kids here! And we go through quite a bit of Instant Ocean, haha. I have had fish for many, many years. I took some time off after I had my two youngest boys but have receintly gotten back into the hobby (about 6 months now). I once upon a time had mudskippers with limited sucess (this was before the internet was avaiable and resources on the topic were limited to me). I had some sort of dwarf puffer as a teen and was in love! That is why I decided to go with puffers this time around. And something about brackish set-ups have always appealed to me. Nice to meet you all!

Have you checked the pH/hardness/alk of the F8 tank? What kind of substrate is that? I ask, because hardness is more important even than salt for these fish & if that wood is leeching so much as to turn the water brown, it is sure to be softening the water & making it more acidic.

hi welcome to the forum.i too fell in love with thebrackish water tank.personally i didnt have luck went full marine not saying that its impossible.brackiskish what turned me on to gsps
you are on right site people here want to help give good advice.you dont get bashed here..these folks actually put thought into their responses.

Thanks for your concern Pufferpunk. I knew I wanted wood in the tat and my tap water is soft too so I went whith crushed coral and sand for substrate. Raises my hardness just right. My brother used to keep chiclids so I thank him for teaching me all about water hardness!

That's good--I wasn't sure what the substrate was.
