Adding a Big Tetraodon Nigroviridis 15cm/6'' to my aquarium

Hello everybody.. nice site here.....

I was looking for some advise here.. i can buy a big Tetraodon Nigroviridis of 15cm/6'' from someone and i'm really in love with this fish, but there are some problems to overcome..

My tank specs:

- Size: 240 liter/ 55 g
- Allready in the tank: 5x mono (±8cm/3'') and 1 x argus (±8cm/3'')
- A lot of plants in the tank
- And here it comes .... on fresh water

I had 2 puffers in the tank aswell but they died a few weeks ago (i'm afraid it was beacause of the lack of salt), so now i was looking for a new puffer and found this one...

I search the forum allready but had still some questions:

-Do you guys think the big puffer will let the mono's and argus alone..??

-Is the tank big enough.?? , i know bigger is better, a tank is always to small but will it give any problems.

- Will the plants survive the brack water..??

- How do you guys handle with algee, are there any brackfish algee eathers.

Hope you guys can give me a push in the right direction....

Welcome!

I would not add that puffer to your tank, as it is already overstocked. Your lants will not survive the change to the full marine conditions that this puffer needs. You are the only brackish algae cleaner .

If you were to transform the tank into a brackish/marine tank then you could fit 2 Tetraodon Nigroviridis.

Ok guys you confinced me, i will not add the puffer in the tank, but i'm thinkin about getting an extra special tank for the puffer instead... (what can i do i'm in love now )

What minimum size would you guys advise for this one puffer...

And about the monos don't they adjust to the size of the tank like most fish do..??

In the (very nice btw) article on Tetraodon Nigroviridis they are talking about "cycling" what do they mean with it (something like aging the water etc, creating a balance)

FISH DO NOT GROW TO TANK SIZE. They may stunt, where their body stops growing, and their organs keep growing, and they die prematurely.
The minimum tank size for ONE gsp is 30 US gallons.
Cycling is building up the bacteria needed to metabolize fish waste, and improper cycling is the #1 cause of fish mortality.

Sorry to tell you but those monos should grow to a healthy foot long, requiring around a 300g tank for a school of them. Personally, I wonder if the poor things are ever housed properly...

Yes they are sometimes very well kept. An area Discus breeder (commercial) kept Sebaes. In a tank taller than I am and the size of many living rooms. They were mind blowing! Huge, gorgeous fish.
