Re: 20 Gallon Tank Puffer
Welcome
There's several types that you could keep. Take a look through here: ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Freshwater/
The ones that I've had are dwarfs, irrubescos, or F8s. They're all lovely though I would be tempted to go with one F8, then 1M 2F irrubescos, then 1M 3F dwarfs. All of those will need complex tanks but F8s also require brackish water. DPs can be very hard to sex in the store whereas irrubescos are very easy to sex.
What do you have available?

It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Re: 20 Gallon Tank Puffer
According to my LFS i can come in and order a fish and they call when it arrives so im sure i can get any species id like
However id like to stay Freshwater for now and id also like a puffer that doesnt require JUST live food.

Re: 20 Gallon Tank Puffer
Take a look through that first link and let us know what you're interested in. We can help you narrow it down with our experiences
Keep in mind though they may say they can get you anything but they probably can't. Puffers aren't like other fish.

Re: 20 Gallon Tank Puffer
I looked on this site earlier and on others and made a list based on that accoding to my tank size what i liked. Here it is: Ocellated Puffer, Red Eye Puffer, Fangs Puffer, Malebo, Arrowhead Puffer, Brown Puffer and Amazon Puffer. Please let me know what you think of those and if any of those require only live foods then elminate them, if there is any non nocturnal species point the out directly please

Re: 20 Gallon Tank Puffer
Ocellated Puffer~ hard to find, active, 1 would fit in your tank
Red Eye Puffer ~ Which red eye? Carinotetraodon irrubesco, Carinotetraodon lorteti
Fangs Puffer ~ Hard to find, Lurker not terribly active
Malebo ~ you won't find this one
Arrowhead Puffer ~ Lurker, inactive
Brown Puffer ~ Friendly somewhat active, but mostly inactive
Amazon Puffer ~ No, these are schoolers so you need more than one and you tank is too small.

Please read all the profiles & minimum tank size requirements for all these puffers you're interested in, at our Pufferpedia. Are there fish in that tank now?

Re: 20 Gallon Tank Puffer
No PufferPunk, my tank is empty, il set it up according to my inhabitents to make them happy
Either of the 3 Red Eye's in the pufferpedia would suit me, Anything Active during the day would be wonderful and will eat freeze dried Krill etc.

Re: 20 Gallon Tank Puffer
If I were you, when you do find a puffer you like in a shop, bring some FD plankton with you to see if it likes that food. There are also frozen foods to feed a puffer, along with easily purchased foods from the produce section of your grocery store.

Re: 20 Gallon Tank Puffer
I cant find any frozen or live fish food at any Fish Store within 200 miles of where im at. All i can find is Feeder fish or brine shrimps. Could you give me an example of what i can buy to feed them fromthe grocery store. Also i can buy mystery snail to breed.

Re: 20 Gallon Tank Puffer
Don't even think of an occelated puffer for a 20g. It also needs high end BW & really is a marine coldwater fish.
