Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Re: mbu puffer has ich
No need to use meds to treat ich. Most ich meds can be deadly to puffers:

Re: mbu puffer has ich
Ouch, I have used that on other fishes years ago and I think it was alittle harsh on them plus it did not do the trick. Puffers are more sensitive to meds then most fishes. Most tells me to bring the temp up, add extra oxygen, and use salt. I have a fahaka that has a mild case of ich on the body and im keeping the temp up, added extra oxygen and keeping the lights off. But if this does not work and I fear of losing my puffer to ich then I will treat with Ich Guard 2 by Jungle, its a milder ich med for small weak fishes and scaleless fishes that has done the job in the past with my scaleless fishes like catfishes and loaches with no harm to the fishes. But it was never used on a puffer with ich. It will be a last resort for me though. I think Rid Ich + by Kordon is pretty much the same thing as Ich Guard 2 from its active ingredents. This is just my opinion if you are going use a med reguardless what other people say. Someone might have a better solution then I.johnnyfishtanks wrote:so im using quick cure has any one used this for puffers

Re: mbu puffer has ich
I used the half dose and still killed my catfishes in the past. Btw, you could use a good UV Sterilizer. That also helps really well for the free swimming stages of ich. Adding a good garlic supplement to the food has been a big plus too. Anything that is hard on ich but safe on the fish is the best bet, imo.johnnyfishtanks wrote:quick cure im just using half the dose hope its ok and worksPufferpunk wrote:It'll work.

Re: mbu puffer has ich
Using 1/2 dose of an anti-parasite med or antibiotic only makes the bug's resistance to these meds stronger.

Pufferpunk knows what she's talking about. You asked for help and it's being offered to you but you're not taking it. Please reconsider what you're doing.johnnyfishtanks wrote:quick cure im just using half the dose hope its ok and worksPufferpunk wrote:It'll work.

Re: mbu puffer has ich
Hey Johnny - I'd have to agree with the no meds & instead using heat, extra oxygen and salt. Has worked everytime I have come across ich on my puffers, or any of our other fish for that matter and it is safe! As long as the heat isn't too high!! lol

Re: mbu puffer has ich
Yep, it's a lovely solution to ich. We've done it several times and it's worked well each time.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Don't forget the 80% water changes every other day, while thoroughly cleaning the substrate for eggs.

Re: mbu puffer has ich
I know this is an old thread but no need for a new one since this has answered all but 1 question .After doing the water change do you add more salt ?The same as directed amount ? And is a week long enough mine is a fahaka and i bumped the temp to 80 is this ok or go higher? Parameters are a=0 nitrite=0 nitrate=20-25ppm 130 gallon
Thanks guys in advance

Re: mbu puffer has ich
Yes you need to keep the salt level the same after waterchanges. You keep treating till a week after spots have gone
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly
