marbled crayfish keeping: what do I need to know?

When I had a Wisconsin crayfish in a five gallon hex, I had lots of fake plants he loved to play in. When I'd feed him live feeder guppies he'd climb the plants and try to reach up, it was cool. Like I said before, once I had a pregnant one in there, I had to, the other tanks were filled and I needed to buy a little time, but he caught her, and when he cut her belly open babies came pouring out, immature. I caught the babies and they grew! Anyways I also fed it blanched vegetables, anything really. He also had a filter and gravel.

I just wanted to add a question onto this, I have a bare 10g that has my snails to ease on cleaning, I was planning on tossing in my marble cray into that tank with the snails. My main question is, will they be ok with bare tank? will they breed in a bare tank?

Don't try to categorize filter format as suited or unsuited to any given application and any format's competence or ability to do the job. Some formats are more suited to to certain jobs or more often to individual preferences. But filter capacity is not a function of format alone.

Most of us have our own preferences - I use more canisters than other formats, but in practice use most formats, depending on the particular application. But the biggest part of my selection is nothing more than personal preference. A;; formats can and will do almost all jobs if properly sized and maintained.

No you need some sort of cover for them. Its as easy getting some PVC and tossing it in .

As PP pointed out they are scavengers / cannibals. I knew this already. They will eat anything and everything. If they can catch it, they will eat it especially if they are overly hungry.

My Guppy tank has an HOB with a sponge filter on it. No lid and very tall fake plants. I was just worried about them getting out of the tank. If they eat the guppies that is ok I have a feeling keeping them well fed and the population under control will help them keep away from the other fish. If not, that is ok.

Well I've successfully hijacked this thread yay

Just wanted to say I finally got my cray, they're bigger than I thought they'd be and they for sure don't like the bare bottom tank so I tossed in a few PVC pipes and they went inside of them pretty quickly. So far I haven't seen them picking on any of the snails though I wanted to ask How quickly do these guys spawn and how fast do the babies actually grow?

Ihave a 55 gallon full of marbs and MTS. The snails are never harmed by the crays.

Ive got the exact same thing, but I also have a few rams horns in the tank. One of which is the size of a nickel.

The ram that's the size of a nickel, is it just a standard Red? Or is it a giant colombian ram? Those are the absolute best for puffers! I have a hard time finding them around here...
