Changing from brackish to marine

Ahhh, my bad. I follow. Basically, to let the rock gather some BB before "seeding" it. Might be a good idea. I like.

This is correct. That was the original plan. Then I found a good deal on live rock from someone taking down a large tank and bought enough to replace all the rock with live and now it's just waiting until I get the SG up to go in. Butttttt, now I've bought another tank to set up so I'm not really sure what I'm going to do.

Keep the second tank as a quarantine tank? Can't go wrong with a QT tank.

I bought the new tank to set up for a couple of clowns and maybe a goby. It's a JBJ 28 gallon Nano cube. I've got 40# of dry rock and 40# of live rock for the two of them.

OK, scrap my stupid Qt idea. That's too nice of a tank for that. A nano reef is always something beautiful to look at. I have a 20 gallon tank. I love it. I have about 38 lbs of LR in it. I keep a pair of clowns as well as corals, a peppermint snrimp and various snails and crabs. I run an Aqua C Remora hang on back skimmer.

As of todays WC I'm at 1.018, 78*, 8.4/0/0/10.

There is a possibility I may be able to set up all of my tanks in an office/tank room in my finished basement so for right now I'm going to stop raising the salinity and keep everything in a holding pattern until I find out for sure. If this move happens I will move Emma into a tank I just bought and will be replacing the 37.

The longer I have it the less I like the footprint, which is 30x12x22. It might just be my imagination but it just seems to promote pacing. I have been leaning toward a 40 breeder (36x18x16), with 20 long sump, but recently discovered a 50 long (48x18x13). That is my number one choice to replace the 37 but I'm a little concerned that the 13" height will be adequate. Any input?

Hey J... My opinion is the 40 breeder will be better in terms of footprint. I think that the 50 will be tough to get proper water flow (i'm not saying impossible, just harder) because of the length. I have this exact tank, but setup as a freshwater planted, so flow isn't a big deal. When going marine, flow is the #1 concern in my opinion. You would need a powerhead at each end, for sure. Maybe an empty hob in the middle of the tank as well.

Thanks for the reply. Powerheads aren't a problem, they're cheap. The tank will be drilled and I'll be attempting my first sump. My main concern is the height, is 13" enough? By the time you factor in the sand bed and to keep from overflowing you're now around 11"-11 1/2" range.
