Fahaka / Nile Puffer!!

Post by RichardGlen »

I am intrested in getting a Fahaka for my 100 gallon tank.
Reading up on the limited information I got on Fahakas, I have some concerns.

First off will my tank be large enough to house it when it is fully grown?

I know its a very aggressive specie with powerful jaw and teeth, so will I forever be in fear of losing one of my pinkies whever I put my hands into the water?

Are Fahaka's aggressive towards thier owner also?

Lastly I would love to see more pictures or read up more on Fahakas, is there a good source of information out there?
I know about Pufferlist, but I need more info then what they have there.

Thanks,

Theo

What are the dimensions of the 100g tank? should be at 24in front to back

My fahaka is very docile towards me, he has bit me once. I hadnt fed him in a day and was making him chase the shrimp that I was going to give him and he got my finger instead. He has acted like he was going to go after me when I was changing his tank, but Im not afraid to put my hand in his tank.....yet

When I had Obie, he always puffed up when he jumped out of the tank, but I never got bitten by him. Actually haven't been bitten by any of my puffs in a very long time, let's hope my luck holds out. :)

I haven't been bitten by my shoal of piranhas yet and really don't plan on getting bit by my fahaka as well, I'm always watching when I got my hands in my tanks... I hope I never get to comfortable and let my guard down.

My Fahaka goes into hiding when I need to do tank work. When I come close to the spot where she is hiding she goes to the other side of the tank. So I think she is a little wimp.

The only puffer who tries to bite every time when I put my hand in the tank is one of my dwarf puffer females, the smalles to be exact. She is a meany but adorable when she tries to attack me.

My Fahaka always moves to the other side of the tank also... My Ceylon on the other hand, will bite you without hesitation! He got my Roommate once already!

All of ours bite but the F8 is the worst. She bites anything and everything with almost no hesitation.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.
