... or the world's boldest ghost shrimp?!
I've had Neville, my DP, since July and a single ghost shrimp, Big Mama, since August. Big Mama is at least three times Neville's size and she rules the tank. I've seen her take bloodworms from Neville. She chases him around the tank. On one occasion she went after him with such vigor I thought she was trying to catch and eat him. Neville didn't puff, but he did that "keeling" action... Looked like a cat raising its hackles. Big Mama will chase Neville away from the dropper at feeding time and eat bloodworms like a frat-boy shotgunning a Budweiser.
I'm now raising ramshorn snails to feed Neville and he's been a bit of a hard sell on this new food choice. He will only eat them if I put them on the dropper end or on the glass. If they fall to the substrate he won't touch them. Last nite one snail fell to the sand and Big Mama came along and peeled the shell off of the snail and ate it!
So who thinks that one day Neville's gonna go postal and have shrimp for dinner?

Re: World's most timid DP...
I've had my GSP (Fwoom) leave a ghost shrimp alone for over a month, so we decided to name him (Frenchie). About two weeks after naming it, there were no signs of Frenchie.
We stopped naming the food.

Give the male DP some females to guard and he will probably man up..
Ghost shrimp can have just as much attitude as any other creature. I saw a video once where a ghost shrimp defended a crab from a puffer...and won.

Re: World's most timid DP...
One of my (late) ghost shrimp battled my DP for a blackworm. After the shrimp grabbed blackworm from puff, DP took the worm back and sucked it down. I guess puff won, but as he ate the worm, the shrimp grabbed puff and turned him around like a little corn cob, trying to find the worm.
He didn't puff or anything, just swam away (AFTER finishing the worm!!). I think it shook me up more than it bothered puff. I saw no bites or marks on him--don't know if a shrimp could hurt a puff if it wasn't sick or hurt already...
Clearly, puffs won in the end. Shrimp are goooone

ask: is this suffering necessary or unnecessary?
