Blue eyes?

I bought anew GSP tonight as a tank mate for Elvis.
I just finished my 55gal tank, and have had ghost shrimp and two crawdads in there for a good two weeks, during the last of the cycling.

Well anyway, I plan on moving Elvis over tomorrow, if this new guy makes it through the night.
My concern is, I didn't notice in the store, but did when I placed the bag in the new tank to get the water temp right, his eyes are BRIGHT blue. I read somewhere that meant he was going to die?

I guess I can take him back if he dies and exchange him, but I want him to live :/
I thought maybe he could eat, and maybe his eyes willvchange back? I don't know, ugh.
I guess time will tell.


On another thought, I finished my 55gal tank.
I bought the tank, 100gal canister pump, hood, lights, and cabinet for 40.00!
I bought 40lbs of black gravel for 10.00!
I lucked out. With a little work, it was a very cheap and awesome deal.
Right now I haw 20 ghost shrimp, two crawdads, one plant, broken pots and a few different rocks, and the new (sick?) fish in the tank. Once I get Elvis in there, the fw plant will be moved to my ten gal and I will get some bw plants and make the change. Super excited. I will share pictures tomorrow when I cam upload a few.

I did see the puffer chasing around some ghost shrimp before I left. His teeth aren't bad, so I know he can eat. I also just know the store was only feeding him weekend beta feeders. :/
Hopefully he gets his teeth around a crawadad. I will pick up some little snails tomorrow after work.

Wow blue eyes? Are you sure they aren't sparkling blue with yellow eyes? Because if that's the case, it's normal. But can you please put up some pictures? It would be awesome if he/she did have blue eyes but I think that is highly unlikely for a GSP.

LOL, that's the craziest thing I've heard yet!!!

I would have gotten Elvis situated in the new tank & then used his tank as a QT for the new guy. I would not put them together! If the new puff has any diseases, so will Elvis. Why wouldn't you think the new guy would make it through the night?

I know you're all excited about that but you should have bought aragonite sand. Also, dark substrate = dark fish.

Not kidding, BRIGHT blue eyes. I'll get a picture when I get off work today. I just remember reading somewhere about someone who got a goldfish with pretty blue eyes that died three days later, and when she took it back to the petstore they said something along the lines "oh yes, blue eyes means they are dying".

About making it through the night, I scare myself into thinking the worst so I don't get so sad and let down if any new critter makes it.

As for Qing the new guy. That's kind of the idea I have with the big tank. You see, Elvis is in a tank with tank mates. (yes, I said it. I cant believe they are still alive, either). He is with a few tetra, a placo, and a dojo fish, and hasn't bothered any of them, with the exception that one fish, a pink tetra, went missing a month or two back. I suspect he had something to due with it, but you cant prove a crime without any evidence.

If the new guy does well, I plan on bringing Elvis over to this tank. How long would you guys wait?

At least a month. QT really isn't like that though. If you need to medicate this fish, the other crestures in therem including the nitrifying bacteria could all die from the meds.
