I'm back and looking to start again

After the death of my pea puffer, Lord Puffington, I stayed away from the forum but now I'm back and hoping to get back into keeping puffers. My boyfriend has a thirty gallon hex just sitting around and it needs fish. We would of course prefer a puffer but understand the footprint issues with hex tanks. While we both love the pea puffers we would like something bigger if possible. The tank had a small crack in the side but we have sealed it up and it holds water, not sure if this is important at all but I've learned that its better to give too much information then too little. What puffer or fish would you recommend?

There a few puffs you could put in there. How about 2 Irrubescos. 1 maybe 2 F8s. Perhaps an abei or turgidus. The water volume is good whatever shape and the importance of footprint diminishes if you keep only one fish.

So you think a fangs puffer would work? There has been one a near by pet store for a few months and we were thinking of getting him if he could be housed in this tank.

id get him. hes lucky to have survived a few months at a pet store! must be in good condition and they must somewhat care what they are doing

is the footprint not good for a congo? i didnt see that part answered and if a congo could comfortably go in there then i would go that route. but if not get the fangs. a less inactive congo would be perfect for that tank i think

We were thinking a congo would be a good choice because of the tank being so tall it would give him a chance to really burry himself in the sand but we've fallen for the little guy at the pet store but dont want to get him if he wouldnt be happy with us.

Lurkers don't experience boredom, as sitting very still and not warning away prey is how they eat. So if any puffer would do fine in a hex or other very tall tank, a lurker would be it.
