Dwarf puffer stocking

Post by FahakaPufferFreak »

Hi

Have a forty gallon aquarium heavily planted, lot's of hiding places, and pieces of driftwood. I was thinking about using it for dwarf puffers, so how many could I get for my forty?

Thanks

The accepted rule is 5 gallons for the first and 3 for every one after that. So, you could have 12 DPs in 40 gallons.

I think it would be really neat to see such a large (comparative to the generally kept amount) group of DPs. I've seen only few tanks as big as yours used for them. :D

Thanks for replying

Have another quick question though, what are the best kind of tank mates for the DP's? (I wanted some fish to clean up algea and left over food). Also do they need a power head to increase the water flow?

With proper filtration you won't need a powerhead.

Some suitable tankmates would be ottos and/or kuhli loaches. If you're adding tankmates then you will need to decrease the number of puffers.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

+1 to Flutters comments.

I'm going to be trying a few shrimp species with mine as well. I won't be counting on them getting along (though many people have had success) and have other tanks I can use to separate the shrimp from the dwarfs.
