He'll be fine in the new tank and should have no problems with some tankmates. I think you just want to get the GSP so u are making excuses.

i say, if you want the GSP, buy the GSP. It sounds like you already really want him, and if thats what you want then get him! You seem prepared to take on the responsibility of another puffer, and the tank is set up and cycling so i say go for it. They are great fish and a 55 gallon is plenty of room for him. Just keep an eye on him when/if you get him for any signs of parasites and such. I might even treat the tank for IPS anyways just to be safe, thats what i did. Just my 2 cents :P

This is the problem melbell she already has a F8 which is in need of a tank upgrade. I say either buy another tank for your f8 and then get the GSP or if you aren't planning another tank go with the F8 in the 55 gallon.

+1

Or...For a short time, while their SGs are the same, you could divide the 55 with plans in the very near future to buy the F8 it's 20g or larger(29g) tank.
There are many knowledgeable fish keepers on this forum willing to help and give great advice...The advice is free; What you choose to do with it gives it value.

i guess i missed the part that the f8 needs an uprade, i didnt see the OP mention that! If you really want the gsp, be prepared to spend the money for a whole new tank system/setup. I know its hard to resist sometimes, because GSPs are so cute, but if your current puffer is living in far less than ideal conditions, my main concern would be him first. I really wanted to get two GSPs, but i learned from this forum that the tank i have now is only big enough for one. Its hard sometimes, because they look so tiny, you dont believe it that they need such a huge tank for a small fish, but facts are facts for a reason and we must trust the experts! Everytime i see the little GSPs at my LFS i just want to take another home, but i have to tell myself that the well being if my fish i have already is far more important than making myself happy by having two puffers.

Maybe you can find a good deal on craigslist for a 30+ gallon tank and setup, and you could get a gsp!

The Figure 8 was moved a while ago and is doing great in the new tank. For now as far as Walmart GSP'S go I'm just flooding them with complaints in real life and on the internet :P

Melbell: I already have a GSP alone in another 55G
Trekenk: He* :P

Thank you for all the help everyone. Appreciated and thanks to this forum the Figure 8 has a large tank which he is using all of :)
