Wanted: Pics of tanks with moonlights!!

Hey guys! So i have been searching around and i REALLY like the look of moonlights on aquariums! I went to my LFS and the only hood set they had with LED moonlights was $250! It was really awesome tho, it had 4 bulbs, and the leds, and a timer and all that jazz. It wasnt in my price range, so i did some researching online and found some pretty cheap blue leds for aquariums on ebay. Only 12.99 US$$. I just ordered them and cant wait for them to get here. Here is a pic and the link if anyone is interested. I know i have seen that some of you have some, but i would like to see pictures just because im curious what they look like actually on a tank, and the different ways you guys have installed them.

wow that looks awesome! I would have loved to try that DIY with some LEDS from walmart, but i dont know anything about electrical stuff, and splicing wires sound scary! hahaha. I hope the ones i ordered end up looking nice on my tank

just looking at that adapter ... it doesn't look like a North American one...

I bought an inverter once and it melted on my 110 system here.. I was lucky (or unlucky) it didn't burn the house down.

yeah the seller says that they send a free converter/adapter to anyone purchasing from the states. I emailed them to make sure they sent me one

my tank has a moonlight strip as well as two stong strips for the wider spectrum... it's not exactly what you're after but i think i'll take a photo of it this evening, been meaning to do a low light shot of it for ages

forgot to turn the tv off so it's very nicely refelcted in the glass.. oh well.. this is the moonlight strip I use for the
evening.

that looks awesome! i always found the blue tint in the water to be more soothing than the bright white light

that looks amazing! Its so calming just looking at the picture, i bet its even more stunning in person! Do you leave the moonlights on all night or do you turn them off before you go to bed? Im just wondering if the moonlights are mean for night lighting and then regular lights for day lighting, with about 12 hours of each one.

hey thanks, no i generally only have a total of 8 hours tank light a day, including an hour or so of the moonlight.

Hey melbell,

The new light that came with the set-up I bought from Craigslist had LED lights on it. They look beautiful, but are a little annoying because they don't turn off ever, unless I unplug the whole light. The first night I had my two GSPs in their tank I just left the LEDs on, and it seemed to stress them out a bit--I didn't notice them sleep at all, just paced the glass all night. (caveat: there could have been any number of many many things that were stressing them out that night), but I started unplugging it at night, then having bluelight for a bit in the am and a bit in the pm, sort of like dawn/dusk thing. It looks like you've got a awesome way to create LEDs on your setup, but if you ever go shopping for a light that has them built in, I'd look for one that lets you turn them off (I assume those exist?).

I'll post pics when I get my camera back (lent it away for the weekend)

thanks puffermichigan! love to see the pics! Im thinking the ones i got i might have to unplug as well. Im thinking also, thats the best way to go, turn them on for an hour before bedtime and an hour in the morning. Mine havent come in yet, but i will be sure to post pics when they do

put them on a timer Manual or automatic it doesn't matter. Easier to set a manual timer than keep plugging them in and unplugging them
