whatcha eatin
Re: whatcha eatin
Ouch, get them fixed already! I got my medicine for free. The doctor was like "it's really expensive" and handed me the entire box of samples
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Re: whatcha eatin
I don't eat factory-farmed meat, so I hardly ever get any except when Mom makes it. I had Tofurkey for lunch, though.
It's a misconception that you need meat in a meal. In most parts of the world, meat is eaten once a day to once a week, not with every meal. No wonder us Americans are so unhealthy.

Re: whatcha eatin
once a day but once a week seems a little extreme. I know if they could they would
On the same token, that doesn't necessarily make "them" more healthy than North Americans... but that also depends on who "they" are

Re: whatcha eatin
Well, we are pretty darn unhealthy really. That can't be argued if you actually do some research into the subject.
I eat meat from 0 to 3-4 times per week. Most of the time I prefer the vegetarian option and when I do eat meat I eat a very small amount, probably less than the size of my palm. Often times I go for about a month where even the thought of eating meat makes me sick. During those times I'm obviously completely vegetarian

Re: whatcha eatin
Not necessarily. Many societies see the harm in factory-farming animals (the only way to support America's ridiculous meat consumption) - it's bad for animals, the environment, consumers, meat industry employees, the economy, and small farm owners. Many societies see the health benefits of less meat. Many also see animal lives as something not to be taken lightly or more often than necessary.J-P wrote:once a day but once a week seems a little extreme. I know if they could they would

Many of them also thank the soul of the animal for the meat it will be providing and apologize to it as well.

I would never ever ever eat Halal meat. They slit their throats and let them bleed to death. Nasty. At least the common methods are fast.

Re: whatcha eatin
If an animal must be killed sliting of the throat is quicker than people think it is and much less abusive than other common methods.
Halal meet most often does not have hormones and other nasties
And the animal is treated to a nicer life than that of commercial farms...where they stand knee deep in feces.
The raising and killing is much like what you would see on old fashioned family farms
If you want to be a vegan, that is fine. If you have the stand point that no meat is what is best, then that is ok too.
However, if you are a meat eater... you think that slitting the throat is bad...then I have to ask you what method should they die by? Which method would be better, electroshock? Poison? Hammers to the head?
I eat meat, and I make a conscious choice to buy from butcher's who treat the animal with respect, and kill the animal with swift cuts to the throat so that the animal dies quickly and does not suffer.
What "common" methods do you refer to? Fast does not equal painless..
Please do not call my food nasty
I do not insult your vegan tendencies, I commend you for them..so please do not insult my meat eating tenancies, especially when I go out of my way and pay more per pound to know my meat had a good life and does not contain a bunch of growth hormones and was not force feed a bunch of indigestible corn and was killed swiftly the same way our ancestors did it.

Re: whatcha eatin
I don't think it is thought of the actual "food" being nasty, as much as the thought of the procedure.
This is starting to remind me of an old Saturday Night Skit where Dan Aykroyd runs a steak shop (forgot the name) and he's standing there with a chain saw in his hand yelling at the camera "You slaughter it, you cut it and we'll cook it! Any thing you want! A 6" steak, no problem!! You slaughter it, you cut it and we'll cook it!!"
but I'd still like to know who these societies are that eat less meat. I am very curious who "they" are. Are we talking North America? Europe, South America? Asia? Africa? maybe Antarctica? .. no because veggies don't grow there.. lets rule that one out.
