Currently in my life I have 3 tanks with a Abei (Calcifer), Fahaka (Nooki) and Hairy (Fitzgig) being my latest addition. I have tried various puffs along the way, but it seems the big guys do it for me and really my water puppies are the best. To cut a long story short, I had downgraded from 8 tanks to these 3 (only meant to be having 2) but have now just got a promotion and so working it out tonight with my partner, he is going to allow me to look into a fourth (and absolute foot on the ground final) as long as I find suitable space.

So..as I do when considering a new tank what to do? Completely and utterly went for comgo miuus first..these guys have always intrigued me and everyones looks so cute. So trundling around looking for suitable tanks. Now the problem comes up, a old fish tradesman I used to know has a gorgeous mahogany looking cube tank on ebay with stand for £120. It is a 250 litre capacity with all the equipment and he is willing to deliver included. I am so tempted but of course and this is harsh to say but I feel this sort of space would be sort of wasted on a single miurus that may be the type that rarely/barely swims at all. So I am thinking alternatives and only thoughts would be Palembang...perhaps to try the combo of palembang and suvatti as the listed article for a bit of interest...these are intial first thoughts but would love to hear opinions.

With regards to availability, the only place know of for congos is Wildwoods and they have one sandy one left, suvattis are pretty easy to get hold of and can get very small juvenile ones, palembangs have seen the odd one or two about.

Oh and as a random thing I found on Ebay or Aquarist, someone is selling a pair of abeis..it makes me cringe to read, I have never heard of pairs working before (very random comment I know)

If you like that tank..and it is a good deal. I would say go ahead an buy it...

But, wait on buying a puffer for it.

Go ahead, set it up, keep it cycled (fishless)

And then wait for the day when you walk into the pet store or see an add online, and fall in love with that specific puffer, regardless of what species it is (provided it would fit in your tank)

You have already got some of your favorite species, this is your last tank (for now LOL)

Why not wait for the love of your life? Why not let destiny and fate take over?

As to the cycling I have the spare filters running on other tanks so the having it cycled wouldnt be a problem. I love the idea of seeing the "one" but unfortunately unless it is a suvatti or dwarf puff, generally they have to be ordered around here The most puffers I get to see are in the local Oceanarium (which has absolutely beautiful and mostly marine - yum). Im also impatient but in no rush so going to have a think about this tank for the moment. Though then again always browsing the ads online...hmm thanks for the alternative thought x

In that case...why not make your last tank a salt water tank? Lots of puppy dogs in the sea!

Ohhhh me and Alex have been tempted and I have tried to convince Alex to go marine a couple of times especially as we like allll the seadogs. But we tried brackish and that was a little scary..maybe it is time I gave it some more thought and reread the Puffpedia..funnily enough they also seem much more easy to get hold off..

I do not know much about SW tanks either, but I am still going to go for it soon

I have decided for all of my GSP's I will just put them all in a huge SW tank. And then one day an Arothon of some sort.

I intend to purchase books with titles like "Saltwater tanks for Dummies"

We have that exact book and it is very informative, it is just taking that final step. We even have our own Ro unit. Aw your gsps are going to be very happy

I am currently thinking congo im afraid and the only real question is obviously sand for substrate but would the usual play sand be too compacted, is a larger grain better?

Pool filter sand is larger grained and involves much less washing. The grains are also all similar in size.
