puffers nipping each other?
hey guys,
one of my F8's is displaying slight nips to its rear fins...
it's a species tank, I didn't think F8's would nip each other...
am i wrong?

Re: puffers nipping each other?
I think that most if not all puffers will nip each other in the right circumstances. They're nippy fish.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Re: puffers nipping each other?
it may be partially due to the tank size vs population
from your other thread: "The tank is 160 litres - which in gallons is about 36."

If fighting for space/territory, even F8s will nip. Be sure your tank is heavily decorated with lots of broken lines of sight with taller decor.

I doubt live plants will fair well in BW. Go with plastic or silk.
You need to really think about re-homing 1 of your puffers. Maybe the nippy one?

yeah, i may see ifthe shop will take it back, but I don't want to cause it more stress than necessary... no one i know is able to
keep a freshwater tank without my help, let alone a brackish..

I think it's best for the other 3.

Re: puffers nipping each other?
ok,we've another tank which is about 50-60 litres, If i set that up over the ext few days as a brackish tank (no fish currently occupy this one) would thatbe acceptable for the nippy puffa?Pufferpunk wrote:I think it's best for the other 3.
it'd be a bit of work, but naturally it's worth it,

Re: puffers nipping each other?
Are you sure about those dimensions? That would give you a tank that holds about 169L so it would probably be a 40gal tank.

Re: puffers nipping each other?
If those are the dimensions then you could probably put in 2 of them.
18"H x 30"L x 20"W = 47G
*edit*
Are we talking about the main tank or the other tank for the nippy F8?
