So you tell her you don't have the mean to take proper care of him without their help.

P.S. hermionejanepotter I don't know what to say every suggestion or idea we come up with to save your little guy is shot down. Bottom line he needs a bigger tank now, you have to come up with something, as another member pointed out your old enough to think for yourself, we can only help you so much you have to take the action.
im geting a biger tank and im going to find out away to get one asap i have looked crages list every day now and the news paper want ads to

Play nice boys. We need to remain kind and considerate.

If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Just out of curiosity..

Did the store tell you that the puffer would be ok in a 5 gallon?

And are you sure you have a green spotted puffer?

Seriously, if she does daily 50% water changes, let's say, until the parents can get her a larger tank, isn't that going to keep the fish healthy? She's going to export growth hormones along with that water change, right?

Now, I'm gonna guess hermionejanepotter is between 12 & 14. Am I right? You can't possibly expect her to have the wherewithal to properly prepare and safely pack a live fish for FedEx. I mean really!!

Let's just keep on helping her stay on top of the day to day stuff. This thread has been real helpful up to the last page. It would seem she's more or less stuck with the fish, for now, and I do think with due diligence those fish can be kept healthy. It will take a lot of work for her, but she's going to learn some serious lessons about fish keeping in the meantime.

I was trying to be helpful and offered her almost triple was a gsp is worth, plus shipping costs. And before that I volunteered to drive to another state..and bring her a betta

Yes we know she is young..which is why I made my offer....

But what is troubling is that, instead of asking.."how do I ship a fish" or "I am really attached and love this fish and want to keep it" she says, "we don't have a fedex"

Are you serious...50% water changes will keep a gsp, a cinchlid and whatever else she has healthy in an uncycled, 5 gallon tank or Rubbermaid container... she does not even have appropriate food for the GSP I am willing to bet.....until her parents get her a bigger tank?

Yes, she is stuck with the fish and we are all willing to help..as we have all been trying to do, but this unfortunately is no lil swims...

What do you want us to keep doing? Nearly all of the people who have responded to this thread have been PMing each other constantly trying to figure out what to do. Before this thread my inbox was at 0%, now it is at 30%. There has been at least 4 or five people committed to finding this child some help, and we will keep trying to help if only for the fish's sake...

But, what we don't need is insults, not to the child...AND not to the handful of people who have racked their brains, tracked down this girl's location, called her local pet stores and found out about their store return policies...

Hermionejane- if you really need and want help we are certainly willing to give it..

WOW harsh......

I wasnt talking about a tupaware dish. I was talking about the storage bins. Alot of those are near the 20gal mark and have a lip strong enough hold up a HOB filter and would work perfectly fine for a temp holding container. If its all she can work with then thats all she can try. I can completely understand a young child to not know if they have fedex or not. She can pull this off if she puts her mind to it and it seems as if she really want to try. So please as said before me please keep it nice and understand that your not talking to an adult.

I'm glad you are looking! Congrats!! Well done! Time is on your side (almost), if you can find a tank within the next couple weeks you should be ok.

keep in mind 2 weeks for looking for the tank + 1 week for cycling and that is almost a month. That little GSP will start growing fast :)

A temp home in a cooler (the rubbermaid as suggested before) may not be a bad idea for a week or so; maybe even a couple weeks. That would extend your search time a little. I don't like the idea because it is plastic and you need a heater in there.. but it can be done.

Keep checking those ads for a 30 gal+ and I am sure you can find a used set up for about $60.
