Hello Everyone. :3

Post by lil' Wolfen »

Hi, my name is Kim. I'm 25 years old and an avid lover of all things puffer fish. :) I've never owned one till recently, but have always wanted to. I found this forum when searching about info on the proper ways to house and care for various species and found it just about the best darn resource on he web.

Currently, I have a 1 inch baby green spotted puffer. He is my baby and his name is Mr. Puffles. He is currently in a full brackish 20 gallon tank. Gonna upgrade him to a 45 gallon I have eventually, but for now at a mere inch in length, 20 gallons seems more appropriate. lol

I'm actually interested in setting up another tank to full marine. It will by my first marine tank. I have been keeping many freshwater tanks over my entire life for almost 20 years. Looking to get a baby porcupine puffer. I decided to join this site to meet more puffer fans, and also to help learn all I need to know before I get my next puffer so I can provide it a happy and healthy home.

Not really sure what to tell about me, other than I'm an X-ray tech, I love puffers and I'm obsessed with video games. lol

I really like this site, and I look forward to meeting everyone and learning all that I can about our little fishy friends. ^.^

Welcome :)
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Welcome! And i agree, this is the best puffer site I've found as well.
There are many knowledgeable fish keepers on this forum willing to help and give great advice...The advice is free; What you choose to do with it gives it value.

Here is some general info of GSPs
ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Brackish/

Here is an article for the care of GSPs
library/puffers-in-focus/an-introduction-to-green-spotted-puffers/

You will need a variety of foods, especially crunchy ones so they can wear down their teeth
here is a feeding article
library/feeding/feeding-your-puffers/

Most puffer owners breed their own snails to keep up with their teeth
Here is an article for snail breeding
library/feeding/basic-snail-breeding/

Is your tank cycled? If not your puffer will die quickly
Here is an article on how to emergency cycle your tank
library/water-filtration/emergencycycle/

Was the tank still full of fish when you added the puffer? Was the tank empty? if it was used before but has not been used in a while. Doesn't mean its necessarily cycled. I would start a thread in the brackish forum as already suggested and read the links provided by everyone. Good luck with your puff. Looks like this thread got HIJACKED- :P
