New and wanting a puffer!
Hi everyone
My name is bread and I'm new to this site.after looking at some of the puffer profiles I'm thinking its time to get one of these bad boys/girls or both.
I want a small puffer that I can keep a pair our trio together.what puffer would be best and what tank should I keep them in and is there any other fish I can keep them with?
Thanks brad

Let's try and narrow it down. Are you thinking large or small? Fresh, brackish, or marine? Active or sedentary?
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Enless you can get a big/long tank for SAP's, just by this statement I would say Dwarf puffers. A 15G tank and you could easily have 3 of them. And most puffers are a species only tank, but in reality most are a solitary fishProblemman wrote:Hi everyone

Sorry my name is brad.
I want dwarf freshwater puffers. I was thinking the common dwarfs if that makes sense.

Re: New and wanting a puffer!
I'm just messing with you Brad (or was it Brad the Bread boy?)
I think going with dwarf freshwater puffers will be a good way for you to get involved with puffers. I have a tank with 5 dwarf puffers in it, and they are really entertaining. They are right next to the tv, so when something boring is on, or it's commercial time, that's when I turn my attention to my dwarf puffers (if the tank lights are still on). I watched them yesterday when I was doing a water change, and they will swim around all together in a pack, moving together and definitely following a "leader". What's funny is that they will all band together when I'm doing water changes, almost as if to say "safety in numbers", and then once everything is back to normal again, it's "hey you, get out of my territory!" and it's chased off. Certainly different from the pack that was previously cruising along together. Strange little puffs of air.

Re: New and wanting a puffer!
If you want dwarfs then figure 5 gallons a fish to be on the safe side. I keep one in a 10 gallon with live plants. Most puffers prefer to be alone.
