snake food ??????

in my area there was a flag drawn to certain peeps looking for free kittens,no big deal,ugh
they were getting them to feed to their snakes,nothing said about that part,no big deal i guess
rat kitten but they were using a little boy as cover to get them.....thats just wrong i think
i know we have a food chain but com on how many kittens hang out on the amazon?
and to use a little rugrat to seal the deal..man just wrong

I worked at a large pet shop & they'd feed their sick puppies/kittens to the giant snakes.

I used to refuse to sell bunnies to the snake owners, if I could figure out why they wanted them. Usually it was easy to tell: heavy tattoos, black leather, and piercings. Guy like that wanting to buy a cute lil lop-ear. Now, tats and piercing's so ubiquitous, it's no longer a dead giveaway

I don't get why they can't stick with rats? I can't watch it happen, for sure, but somehow feeding a rat to a snake seems way more natural.

I used to live in a trailer park that had quite a few feral/semi-tame cats and the word there was that if there were cats or kittens out running free, the local pit-bull owners would grab them to use for training. THAT you don't want to know anything about - brutal. It's a brutal world out there, I guess, when you get right down to it.

I know rats make good pets. There's just something more natural to me about feeding them to snakes. Probably because as much as I love animals, I could say goodbye to a rat faster than some other critters.

You wouldn't qualify because you're a woman It was the big beefy guys like I described that you knew for sure weren't wanting the bunnies for pets. It was the entire "package" that was a give-away, KWIM? Now if he was in there with his daughter or son, and they were looking at pets and the kid was obviously engaged in the sale, then yeah, we'd sell to them.

when i worked at the pet store the people with larger snakes would special order feeder guinea pigs or rabbits. never had larger animals to feed in store which would require something of that size. but all "feeder" bunnies/guinea pigs were deformed in some way that would effect their long term health whether it was mental or physical. that i can see doing, but not buying a perfectly healthy bunny or guinea pig or trying to coax someone into giving you a free kitten cause you couldnt afford your pet. if money is an issue rehome it. period. when i downgraded my SW fish tank with my GSP i didnt just run to the closest ocean or brackish body of water to dump fish i knew i wouldnt be able to keep because of the bioload, i waited a little extra time to get rid of them and found people suitable to rehome them. some people are just pathetic human beings

And some people are really just sadistic. I had an employee who truly enjoyed feeding live animals to his snake for the thrill of the kill. He would talk about how much he enjoyed it and go through all sorts of gyrations re-enacting it for the rest of the small animal crew

Once, I watched a large boa kill a rat, and that was the end of that for me. I know it happens, but I don't have to watch it. And ironically enough, I really like snakes, and will handle them with no fear. It's the killing part that I don't enjoy, but that's because I'm a mush.
