Yes as Corvus said we dont exactly know what they are until someone classifies them properly, until then its pretty much guesswork.

I have another album with loads of mystery ones with different markings, I have posted pics of them up before but if you havent seen them they are located here.

hmmm interesting "mystery" puffs. im almost sure that mine is just standard GSP, just wishful thinking i guess :) im about to upload some new pictures. the reason i am wondering so much is that there just seemed to be some different style markings coming out on my GSP, almost looking like a sabas markings starting to come out. so i looked and figured i would make a thread seeing what people think.

don't shoot me,

but i think Jus's looks more sabaish. I think PP's look like GSPs, with some saba features

But who knows maybe they are all hybrids... or GSP variations

We just have to wait until they get past the expected size for GSPs

see purplecandle sees what i see haha, i do see how its just a GSP or maybe a hybrid though. hes really cool, either way im extremely happy with him. thank you hilly! i have tried to give him a good home once i really learned about the care they need. PP schooled me on them back when i used to be on MFK like two years ago. hes reaching about 5 inches, its hard to get an accurate measure on him cause he gets too excited when im up at the tank looking for food and doesnt really sit still haha. i will try tonight to remember and stretch a tape measurer across the front of the tank and try to get a good picture of him long ways across the front. how big has anyone saw a saba? i see in the pedia it says they get "6+ has anyone ever saw them reach well beyond what a GSP gets? the pattern that seems to be coming out might be conjoining spots like PP's has, and i could really see how mine could come out to look like the one on the right in PP's picture of hers. the one on the left in her picture seems to have more narrow of a "snout" leading to the mouth while the other looks like mine where its almost perfectly rounded to the mouth. mine will probably develop a pattern more along the lines of the one to the right in PP's picture

When I wrote that profile, it was based on the specimen I had so I thought 6"+ was the most appropriate sizing to put in there. It's difficult going on pictures alone but my specimens head alone always seemed much larger than any pics posted up of GSP's. I did a fin ray count which was in line with what the Aqualog said for the Sabahensis. I have no idea the age of mine, and while I had it it didnt seem to grow in length at all so I assume it was full grown when I got it. They could get bigger but I have no idea of the maximum potential size.

fin ray count? is that something that can be done just looking at the puff. might be a dumb question haha just not sure what the fin ray count is. off to google after this post to try and find out. did you write all the profiles or just the saba since you kept it?

In the Puffer Aqualog it states no. of rays on the dorsal/anal fins. I counted them from a photo and they fell within parameters. No I only wrote that one.

What does it say about the number of rays?

Both of my puffers were bought at 2" & looked just like the typical GSP juvie. I assume they were from the same "litter".

thats interesting cause if thats the case they turned out almost completely different from eachother. the "snout" difference i see could also just be from the angle the puff on the left is at. but even the spot differences is pretty cool. one has more blotched bigger spots and the other looks to have smaller more scattered spots

so every picture i put on here is huge no matter how small i make it in photoshop. i tried to upload 3 pictures, and they all came up huge even though i resized them as a medium size image in photoshop. i can always do the free image resizer online but his size shows nicely in this picture. hes slightly curved so hes not straight out, i would say hes just about an even 5 inches now. anyone else notice how much of a camera hog my blue velvet damsel is? i just noticed his face in this picture. i think hes in like every picture i take of my puff
