Does anyone know a contact number for MSN Hotmail, UK?
My account started sending out loads of spam to my contact list and even though I closed my account last Tuesday people are still receiving spam emails. I've tried looking on the MSN website but it constantly directs me towards Frequently Asked Questions or some other useless area.
Any help would be much appreciated

You've got more chance of winning the lottery than finding a telephone number that actually offers help from Microsoft. IF your account is deactivated, then its not coming from yours, what most likely has happened is its read your contacts and uploaded them to its spam mailing list.

Cheers Hilly, yeah Microsoft hide their telephone number very well!Hilly wrote:You've got more chance of winning the lottery than finding a telephone number that actually offers help from Microsoft. Do you know if there's a way to stop the spam company? or why it's my email address that they see?

In that case are you sure your hotmail has been totally deactivated. I've had some come through to me and i've not even opened them just previewed them and its sent to spam my address list. Way I got round it was to delete my contacts, do a spyware and antivirus scan and then I put everything back and that worked for me on that occasion.

Re: Hotmail Contact Numbers?
It's probably a spoofed return address. While internet explorer and google chrome can both be used to send out mail from a hotmail or similar HTTP email account if you have the account logged in. A script won't be able to send mail from a closed account, and you can always confirm by checking your "sent items" folder; typically such scripts don't bother erasing the sent spams. Much less likely to happen from firefox, but still possible.
Most of the time when this happens, it's a spoofed return address. The actual spammer is somewhere in Lithuania sending out 100k emails a day, but the spam reports are made against your actual email, along with 100's of other individuals who have actually done nothing wrong.

No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

Re: Hotmail Contact Numbers?
This happened to me with yahoo mail and I have firefox. However, I do not blame Firefox.
I am almost 100% sure that the spoofing originated with my ex-stepmother who keeps everything stored online..such as addresses... and she spend ALL of her spare time online chatting. Plus whoever spoofed me also spoofed my dad and my husband's accounts. Since I have no one in my a address book, I am sure the spoofing must have started with her.
I was not willing to give up my email address, I beefed up security and designated certain mail as spam and I have run several security checks (with the help of Dadof4). I rarely see anything, except for genuine spam..lol Now my yahoo account automatically sends spoofed mail to my spam account.

Re: Hotmail Contact Numbers?
Thanks everyone.
I think that I might re-activate my account then and delete the contacts (if they're still there) and change the password - to one that 'll probably never remember! And hopefully that will sort it.
I've got a Yahoo account now so hopefully that one won't get hacked...
