Scope shot For SAO870: Is this what you are seeing?

Post by J-P »

This is a scope shot of Spirorbids.

They infest newly established tanks.. and will die back eventually. The look like tiny white spots on the tank walls, heaters and pipes... any HARD surfaces. They are a form of tube worm.

This pic is under a scope at about 250x mag

AFAIK no your fish can't eat them.. they are pretty hard shelled.. they are filter cleaners. Similar to feathers etc.. a credit card will scrape them off the glass or a razor scraper. Once they die off the shells will remain and they are HARD shells.

They will help clean the water, are ugly, but not harmful to your tank.
