***HELP*** Something ate my porcupine puffer
***HELP*** Something ate my porcupine puffer
Hi guys I have a tank with a red spotted blenny, 2 clown fish and an blue-faced angel. I bought a 1" cowfish and after a about 2 weeks i found it lying at the bottom of the tank dead, so I replaced it with a 1" porcupine puffer which did really well as they do for like 3-4 weeks, saw it last night before bed with its happy to see you character he was fed and everything and then i woke up this mornin and it was lying at the bottom with SOMETHING having eating the skin in a circular manner just on the top of his head and also eaten some of the inside like in a corroded manner. I think there is something in there which i havent found yet but is doing this! all the other fish seem perfect and behaviour is great. The only thing i could think that could do this over night is another presence in the tank. but what??? please help.. I dont want my other beautiful fish becoming victims
Thanks
Thanks
Re: ***HELP*** Something ate my porcupine puffer
Anyway you could get a picture of him or did it look anything like this viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23992 (I'm thinking maybe vibrio)? I am also thinking he could of die in the night and then the other fish nibbled at him??? What type of clown fish and can you tell us a bit more about your tank? How long it has been set up, how it was cycled, how large and water parameters?
So sorry for your loss.

Porcs are cute, sorry he died.
There are many knowledgeable fish keepers on this forum willing to help and give great advice...The advice is free; What you choose to do with it gives it value.
Re: ***HELP*** Something ate my porcupine puffer
the tank has been up and running for 6 months now. The clowns are true percula clowns. it didnt look like that pic, unfortunately someone has disposed of him
. but on the top of his head was a circular area missing altogether like someone had taken a bite out of it. for example the equivalent of someone cutting off the top of your skull and feeding on a little of the inside. im baffled, water parameters are fine had it tested at the LFS which i suppose is shown in the health and behaviour of the other fish. i just cant fathom what happened
i really loved that porki
. i just dont want anything to happen to my other fish.

How much live rock is in there. Enough to hide something like this?

Folks at my reef forum find these worms more often than you know.

No, but if the puffer died, you'd be surprised how quickly certain hitchhikers from the live rock would start on the body.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.
