Which best for which tank?

Ok well I've gone and done it. A hairy puffer will be turning up on my doorstep in a couple of weeks. Just need help to ensure right puff in right tank. Currently have abei in 100 litre and 120 litre spare. The question is do I leave abei alone or transfer or hairy straight in 120? Have read puffpedia library but be good to know your thoughts x

The Abei will be fine in the 100 litre (26 US Gallons) for life.
The Baileyi is ultimately the bigger fish so go for the bigger tank straight away.

Thanks very much Hilly. Second question, I feel the abei should have a redcaps then. How do you go about it with fish present? Them elsewhere or gentle manouveure around them?

I generally do it with fish in tank, however if you have a particularly skittish fish then this can be a problem. If its just small objects then it shoudnt be too much of a problem, however if you're putting anything large in exercise a bit of caution just in case he spazzes out. If you can corale him into a heavily covered area while he feels a bit more secure whilst you do any big aquascaping that should minimize the chance of him going off on one.

One last query on the hairy then, I have heard people breeding their snails in with congos as the congos didnt care for snails, are hairies much the same???

I honestly dont know about that. If im going on assumption as they are a lurker and would rather wait for food I would imagine they wouldnt pay too much attention to them. One of the Baileyi keepers would be better equipped to answer this one for you on whether snails are part of their staple diet.

I can keep snails in all my lurker tanks without them being eaten. In fact, I just transferred my Baileyi to a tank with many different snails and they are breeding like wildfire. I like being able to have snails in some of my other tanks, as I have about 3 tanks now that snails are breeding in, so that's much more to pick from. I need all the snails I can get with my hungry bunch.

P.S. -- Good luck on getting your new addition. You are becoming quite the puffer keeper, aren't you with all the different ones you have now.
