I guess the plants would make pulling decor a bit difficult. Do you have a some type of floor lamp to use as temporary lighting.
Good luck on the move.

And don't forget cheap terracotta pots...I know a guy that actually uses those.

That could be your problem, Cycle is nothing but dead bacteria, a waste of time & money & is not an ammonia source. Please read the 1st 4 articles to better understand the nitrification/cycling process. library/category/water-filtration/
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...
okay, i have looked around my city at about 10 different stores. i couldnt find a pure ammonia like that article explained. the ones that i found either had an additive or when i shook it, it bubbled. what else can i use. i've heard of people putting in a piece of shrimp. or could i just take a piece of the filter sponge from a different cycled tank and put that in the filter for the 30gal? i would switch my aquaclear on to it, but i was treating for ich. last nite was the last treatment and everything seems to be find. i would have taken a filter from my 55 which is cycled and disease free but it was made for me and theres a brace in the middle so the whisper 3 wont fit on it.
is there anything else i can use besides pure ammonia?

this is actually the 1st time i've heard not to use cycle. this will be the 5th tank i've cycled. all of them which i used 'cycle' and i chunk of established filter media. all my tank took a maximum of 2 weeks to fully cycle

you know where I found the right kind of ammonia? A little country gas station in the middle of no where, near my home. Nice layer of dust was on the top. Just a thought..maybe you have a store like that near you..
yeah I know people who have used shrimp, and I have used a shrimp to keep a tank cycled until the inhabitant came home from the store..
I think ammonia is better because you can control how much is in the tank, meaning you could use a little if a betta is going in the tank or you could use a lot as if a puffer is going in the tank..
