urgent! please help!

okay to start it off, here is my list of fish in my 80gal...1 dragon goby, 3 bumble gobies, 1 gsp, mollies and guppies 1 swordtail.

we are currently setting up a 30gal tank for the gsp

so here is what happened: we've lost 2 guppies to my gsp which is no big deal because we put him in there to control the population. but today i was just looking at the tank and noticed that one of bum
ble gobies has a chunk missing on his back. the culprit, none other than my gsp.

i have a 20gal tank running and cycled that i had some convicts in, but we have the cons away. we put a swordtail in that tank because he was bullying the other fish. i dont want him to bully anymore fish, but i dont want to lose anymore fish to my gsp. so i was going to put the swordtail back in my 80gal and move my gsp to the 20gal until his 30 is ready.

however i just checked the parameters in the 20 because they say gsps are very sensitive to water parameters.
ammonia: 0
nitrites : 0.1
nitrates: around 10
ph: between 7 and 7.5

will be gsp be okay in the tank with those parameters if i do constant monitoring? and i just added a dose of prime to see if it would help. I'm going to check the nitrites again in an hour to see if they've dropped.

please help!

what are the SG numbers on the 20 and 80? Or will you draw 20gs of water off the 80?

What are the dimensions of your 80g. I only ask because I wonder if you could use a divider in it. What filters do you have on your 80? If you have HOBs on it can you change one out with the 20 or 30g tanks.

oops i guess i posted this in the wrong spot.. the tank isn't brackish yet, we're battling ich right now, it week two, however my gsp never seemed to be affected, just the mollies and my dragon goby. the goby had a spot, and the mollies are flashing. but we're using aquarium salt and heat so cure it and seems to be helping.
once the ich was treated we were going to introduce marine salt.
and the 80 gal is 48x16x24

oh and i have an emperor 400 and an aquaclear 300 on the 80gal. on the 20gal i have 2 aqua clear 20s

With those tank dimension I doubt you could buy any dividers to work.

I would switch out the AQ300 as it sits with one of the other two tanks after doing like a 75% WC as I'm guessing the 30g has high ammonia right now and we already know that the 20g has high nitrates.

Worst case you could return the GSP for now.

depending on the size of the GSP you can use eggcrate (the lighting fixture stuff from the hardware store) to make a fairly snug divider.

The holes ate 1 cm wide.

I thought the same but the BBGs could probably swim right through it. I guess they might figure out that the GSP can't get through it too and stay on the other side...But my BBGs don't seem all that smart. But I like them anyway. But it would only cost a couple bucks and would be worth a try. Plus you never know what the next situation will be that you'll need a quick divider.

yes the 30gal has hardly started cycling I'm only seeing ammonia in it right now. i'll look in to the egg crates...but id be scared that some of the fish could swim through...the bumble bee gobies basicaly. but at the same time, my dragon goby would probably dig under the egg crate

If it were me I'd swap out your AQ300 from your 80g to the 30g after a 75% WC and put it's filter on your 80g. You'll be fine, just don't overfeed.

Just out of curiosity what filter is on the 30g now?

on the 30 i have a whisper 3 good for tanks 20-60. the only thing is, i dont have a light fixture for it yet or decorations. if i did do that i'm pretty sure my gsp would be verry bored.

Well which is worse; some dead fish or a bored fish? I would take some decor from the 80 or 20 and put it in the 30. Sometimes you have to do what's best for all the fish and make do with what you have on hand. Or.. put your AQ300 on the 20g to filter out he nitrite and just turn the flow down a bit. After at least a 75% WC and some Prime of course.

Also, do you check the temps of you existing tank water compared to your fresh tap water at water changes with a thermometer. You can us a cooking thermometer to do so and they only cost a few dollars. I've used one as well as cheap infrared one that you can get online for $10-20. I'm only asking because of the ich outbreak.

lol i guess ya...dead fish are worse than bored fish. but i dont really have any decor i can move from my 80...it's all real plants and they are rooted really deep into the substrate. i'm picking up some stuff tonight before i go to work. i still have to find a light for the 30gal.

and yes, i do compare temps. i use the cooking thermometer too lol
