LOL...I think he meant Filipina (feminine word for Filipino)...we do not spell it with "ph." Only the name of the country in English is Philippines, but in Tagalog its Pilipinas (so pilipino or pilipina but an "English version" which is Filipino or Filipina.)

You've gotta go check it out either way. Take pics, if possible? If the fish is in rough shape, it's a no-brainer. But if it's very healthy and young............

Of course, as RTR has said in the past, the price of the fish is really insignificant! It's the tank, the filters, the water, the lights, the electricity, that really add up. So what's $120 on top of that?

Will buy it, but gonna make him keep it quaranteened for a week or so to give it a less stressful transition.

On top of it, they have TWO specimens.
One small and one larger.
Colouring and hairyness aside; should I go for big or small?

I use to live in the philipines. And this past year for chemistry I had a filipino/pilipino teacher

. Gave me good grades cause I greeted him in tagalog.

I kinda think its intresting how they pronounce the p's as f's and f's as p's my chem teacher would try confusing my class with it and only i would understand lol. He was so awsome!

I always like to pick the best-looking/healthiest of the 2. If they're identical, get the smaller one & gro it up oroper.

PP my question about the smaller one would be, is it small because it is young or small because its stunted?

Fish it the wild are less often stunted than in captivity by a huge margin.

Younger smaller wild caughts tend to be healthier, more adaptable (less conditioned to their available foods). Others factors being equal I choose the smaller fish so long as it is not fry.

Small specimen refused to eat.
Died after two days in the LFS-tank.

Saw large specimen today.
Around 4".
In bad shape, large wound on it's back and tail nipped to shreds.
On the bright side; it's being medicated and accepts food semi-readily.

I showed grand willpower and left it in the shop.
Made a deal with LFS owner.
If it's alive a week from now; I'll buy it.

Said LFS-owner is a tough biznizman.
He told me I would not get a dime in compensation if it died after a few days in my care...

Think I'll torture myself until Tuesday...
Then I will bring the hairy baby home!

They had splendid & large Palembangs as well.
First time I've seen them coloured towards yellow.
(Still looked like Palembangs though).

Shame that LFS is so darned expensive...

Showing splendid self-control.
Phoned the LFS yesterday and fish is doing suprisingly well.
Expecting a nice paycheck today so mayhap I'll bring him home...

Took advantage of the missus having her first "single-woman" vacation for over 6 years.
Had a 100 gallon in storage and it is now in da house...

My Fahaka will make a move to the 100 gallon later tonight...

Found this info on T. baileyi at The Puffer Lair:

Tetraodon baileyi (valid): 12 cm (4.72 inches) cited in literature, though specimens viewed at the Steinhart Collection were massive, some reaching 11 inches. A substantial fish and very rotund. Noticeable fringes from the body. This epidermal cirri and the lack of scales entirely are unique and thought to be perhaps a specialization and linked. Known only from the Mekong basin in Thailand and Laos. Occurs in rocky habitats including rapids. In life, their bellies are yellow-orange.

I don't think that I can blame PP for all my tanks - I run fewer now than when I first met her. Maybe she will want to blame her tanks on me!

I think we just have to say it is due to Mother Nature - for providing all the irresistible puffers.
