another flying fahaka!!!

Post by lesleyanndunn »

abe is about 4" now.
and everything that goes into the tank is tested by his teeth to see if its food!
including my fingers :?

i put my hand in to drop in some snails
instead he latched onto my finger.
i pulled my hand out
didnt know he was still attached!!

he goes flying through the air and lands on carpet
my boyfriends going 'pick him up, pick him up!!'
i flicked abe into an empty glass and put into tank
he swims off as if nothing happened

he didnt flap about on floor, or puff or anything!
just lay there, then swam off when put back in tank
he was out for about 30 seconds.
my heart still hasnt calmed down 8)

hes eaten his snails and swimming about
as if to say 'whats all the fuss about?'

Please forgive me, but that made me laugh! The part about him going flying through the air .... just sounded funny, although I'm sure it wasn't.

Did it hurt when he attached himself to you?

Well at least Abe wasn't hurt, and that's the important thing. Can't believe he didn't puff when he was out of the water. Mine seem to do that very quickly when they come out of the water.

might also be a good idea to not stick your hand in the water during the feeding of a predator fish

Oh my! Well, it's nice to know (since yours is about the size of mine) it's as threatening as a hamster bite if I do get bit... However, I know what you mean if you need to stick the fingers in for a sec... He's not bit me yet, but come darn close. At work I deal with garlic a lot, and my hands have perma-garlic-stink... even if it's faint. I'm sure my hands smell awful tasty to him. I know yesterday I was doing little snail stealing (moving his nerite to the big tank with some algae rocks) and that bugger was checkin me out... Circling my fingers... I pointed at him under water (I realize that probably was super tempting to him) and yelled at him *You better not bite me mister!* and he swam off to a corner...

Seems scary to get bit, and I'm surprised yours didn't puff being flung out onto the floor too! (also finds it strange spell checker flags didn't for me, but not did't?) Maybe he didn't puff cuz he still felt safe on your floor? LOL *Mom will put me back... I just know it.*

same things happened when my GSP bit my boyfriend, it flew across the air as my boyfriend flailed not realizing the fish was still attached to his finger. Poor Chomper sure did puff and freak out.

Thats cool that it swam around like nothing happened.

that nearly happened to me today, i was doing a water change on my GSP'S tank and my son was sitting next to the tank on the pc and i heard him laughing and he said the puffer is trying to bite your finger ,i hadn't felt a thing but i jumped when i looked and saw the puffer next to my hand and when i quickly removed my hand the puffer had hold of my finger nail
if i had pulled my hand out any quicker he could have also gone flying :)

Talk about a flying Fahaka -- my Obie did it again today! He jumped out of the tank!

I keep forgetting to close the top after feeding him. Thing is, we were out of the room this time when it happened, but I heard the "clicking" noise and ran into the room. At first I wasn't sure what that noise was, and then it dawned on me what it meant, and we started looking for Obie. Last time he jumped, he landed on the floor, so I'm looking on the floor, and I don't see him. I see water all over the wall and I know he's got to be somewhere around, and then I look down on the sofa and there he is, on his back! Strangely enough, he wasn't inflated much at all and allowed my husband to pick him up with no trouble. This time he didn't scratch either of us. The husband put him back into the tank and he seemed fine. :)

I don't know why, but Obie is becoming more and more easily frightened. I would have thought that maybe he would be like that when he was small, but now that he's getting so much bigger, I don't understand his behaviour. It's not like anything has changed, and the dogs have always been around the puffers.
But I will have to make sure to keep that lid shut! :whip:
